Function of government is the protection of its citizens and their property. It's been that way since the beginning of civilization. Someone(s) here do not agree with that. I'd like to know why.

In theory, the function of government is the protection of its citizens and their property. Some of us just don't believe that in "practice" that is their main priority.
And like bgmall says: Some are protected more than others.

Oh I fully agree with that. On the Democrat side you have a number of local governments(including my own in Los Angeles) who don't believe in protecting personal property as any sort of priority and on a national level you have a current President who apparently doesnt believe that a terrorist nation with nuclear weapons is any sort of threat. On the Republican side you have guys who get us into wars we shouldn't be in and also have guys like Jeb Bush who would turn the nation entirely over to the 1%, which is ultimately a protection issue for all of us as well

The word "protection" can be redefined and misused. Also, the protection does not mean taking away basic rights and freedom. Should the government protect you from your own self? I think not.

We aren't all lawyers seeking to mince words.
