In some of my conservative brethren.

To me, terrorism is designed just as much to destroy freedom and create reticence and second thinking on the part of the group the terrorist act is perpetrated as it is to simply kill.

I'm no fan of the LGBT lifestyle and particularly its politics. However I do believe that in a free nation, such individuals(and any really) ought to be able to advocate and promote their beliefs as they see fit, provided they do not physically harm others. I see the SB killings and the Orlando killings(as well as those in France and elsewhere in the world) as efforts to silence and bully others.

I was sad today in discussing this with some of my very conservative friends. They all agreed everyone has the right to live. But when I mentioned my ideas about their rights to advocate on their own behalf, I was met with silence. That's wrong. Free speech protections exist for everyone. I didn't even know people thought in such a way. I wouldn't want to silence anyone, though I reserve the right to mock those that make rampant abuse of their free speech rights. But were all Americans, all retaining the same freedom of speech, freedom to pursue religion, freedom really to live our lives. To me it hurt that other Americans were killed. Worse yet, the LGBT community has suffered unfairness, injustice, and persecution, for a long time. I thought the tide had mostly turned. Guess I was wrong. So unfortunate.

Not sure I follow. You were shocked that they thought that advocating and speaking about one's beliefs was reserved only for those they agreed with?

You were massively wrong.

Just 10 years ago the Republican party was filled with hate against gays, gay rights, and gay marriage. Did you forget that the gay marriage ban amendment to the constitution was voted on in 2004 and lost 48-50 in the Senate?

In 2005 Alabama banned plays or books by gay authors, or about gay characters in all public schools including colleges. Here's a quote:

"I don't look at it as censorship, I look at it as protecting the hearts and souls and minds of our children." (apparently college students are children) ~ State Representative Gerald Allen. (R)

Did you think all those people just evaporated? Disappeared? They still form the core of the Republican party.

Oh, but she just feels it's a state issue. How does she feel about NYS recognizing gay marriage?

Yup Hillary sucks but arguing that Clinton's positions held for political reasons somehow makes the left more hostile to homosexuals is ridiculous.

I will say an epic split is underway. The gayest man alive, Milo Yiannopoulos, seems to be consolidating right and left under the banner of anti-feminism and anti-SJW and has chosen Donald Trump as his hero. While Trump is a clown and is doomed to fail, the movement itself is getting stronger and will be the new face of libertarianism.

Meanwhile feminists and BLM thugs seem to be getting closer and closer to an alliance with the fundamentalist Christian right. Feminists are assaulting trans men who want into their ranks and the rhetoric is increasingly bigoted. 'Just because you lop off your dick and then wear a dress doesn't make you a fucking woman.' ~ Feminist Germaine Greer. Likewise gays in general: 'Gay men are more misogynistic than straight men': ~ Charmed actress Rose McGowan. I'm not going to document right wing Christian attacks against homosexuality because they are already legend but what is new is the feminist attacks on homosexuality. Also feminists are becoming increasingly hostile against all forms of pornography.

A long list of sex acts just got banned in UK porn

The future will pit libertarians from the left and the right against authoritarians from the left and the right. Pick your friends closely because Republicans and Democrats are going to be best buddies in the near future.

And Islam. Feminists in the UK are happy over the new Mayor's ad bans of "body shaming" (aka very fit women) in London.
