What fraction of Bay Area and National residential real estate is rental?

Hi guys,

I'm looking for some data that I can't seem to find. Given that there are a lot of real estate savvy folks here on Patnet, I thought I'd try here.

I'm trying to understand what % of Bay Area (and National) residential real estate is either rental or second home as opposed to owner occupied.

Does anyone know where I can get this info?

Thank you,

BayArea

The best you can do is the home ownership rates, which are declining but not in free fall.

Thanks Iwog, I figured that might be the case.

http://www.city-data.com/ lists rental %

Been through the site and struggling to find that piece of data. Would you be able to point me to it?

Thanks
