Print out a house anyone?,
Enzo MiMo said:
I note that the animation of the multi-story building being "printed" relies on 2 widely spaced rails on which the robot runs. These rails would need to be so PRECISE, STEADY (deeply bedded), AND *STRONG* (weight-bearing), that I'm sure they would be an expensive construction project all by themselves, before a single sq. ft. of building was ever erected.
If only the French had possessed this technology when building the Maginot Line... LOL!
Seriously, this rail-based automated technology might find application in building huge public works (dams, aqueducts, lined ship canals, rail car shelters, etc.), where the RAILS WOULD HAVE UTILITY *AFTER* construction as well.
"8-12 in. of cement would probably be on par with 4-6 in. of monolithic poured ferro-cement"
That's going in the wrong direction, i.e. concrete (specifically the Portland cement component) is VERY energy-intensive, as is the transportation of the heavy final products. The LEEDS kommissars will be all over you. Also, weaker-but-heavier walls increase your FOUNDATION costs significantly.
I'm an engineer, very pro-technology... but it has to make $$ sense. - On 28 Nov 2010

Terminally ill uninsured to blow up hospitals,
Enzo MiMo said:
HMOG!... let's hope you mean the terminally ill will bomb INSURANCE COMPANY HEADQUARTERS, and K-STREET LOBBYIST OFFICES, and *not* the hospitals, where many good and innocent nurses are doing ALL THEY CAN (and then some) to actually help sick folks.
If a few so-called "MDs" who used all their medical training to become plastic-titty-installers happen to be at the Insurance HQ, picking up a check, when the "device" goes off, oh well, so sad... ;') - On 26 Nov 2010

I call "FOUL" on the "official" sale price. I'm supposed to believe peak (2005) Bubble pricing at this time?
The NAReal-tards™, Duh Banks, Duh HOAs, and (passively) the county property appraiser, all have a vested interest in "recording" the highest possible sales price. I'm guessing there was an off-the-books kickback, err, I mean incentive, err, I mean rebate, err... I mean Federal RICO violation which will never be investigated. ;')
I already have 2 first hand examples of such here in So-Fla. Used-house price inflation by ANY means necessary... oh yeah...
