My suggestion would be to look at an editors / curators circle who can help select links. There are plenty of sites (reddit, hacker news) which allow user-submitted content. However they have to solicit active participation.

My main problem is that I tend to hit PN for a quick perusal of headlines, I generally don't log in, and the recent link quality has been ... decidedly mixed.

Worse is the graphics which frequently link to a forum or discussion with apparently little or no bearing or context on the graphics. I think this may be because the front-page link tends to land on the *current* page of comments, which has almost always drifted significantly from the orginal topic.

It's making things generally less useful.

OK WTF is this new picture? Peering into the properties it's from NewScientist.com.

“Eagles are dandified vultures” - Teddy Roosevelt

As others noted, it's from the "Revealed – the capitalist network that runs the world" New Scientist story.

Had me a bit puzzled until I saw the story elsewhere and recognized the image. "Oh, that's what Patrick was on about.

Hyperlinking from the featured photo to the story would be a Good Thing.

I'm not a fan of gimmicks, especially gimmicks which feel like gimmicks. Still, I'd be interested in hearing what Ms. Fox does for your bounce.

One thought I've had is that it'd be nice to have stories link directly to a discussion page, a'la Slashdot / Hacker News (or did I say this last time you asked?).

As for moving patrick.net in a direction other than strictly real-estate, the recent OWS stories suggest you're headed in the direction I'm interested in.

How about affiliate references to books through Amazon? There's a lot of interesting stuff out there, and getting a cut of some of the action might be useful. Speaking of books, I've just picked up J.K. Galbraith's "The Great Crash, 1929". Parallels, parallels....
