The problem is the right won't take "yes" for an answer and keeps pushing further and further ("stand your ground", etc.). I think its because they see it as a political winner and want to keep the fight alive.

Bullshit. NYC, DC, Chicago bans.... The Schumers of the world will push for as much as they can get:

“The basic complaint is that the Chuck Schumers of the world want to take away your guns,” Schumer said of the argument made by gun lobbies. “I think it would be smart for those of us who want rational gun control to make it know that that’s not true at all.”

....He also said average Americans don’t need an assault weapon to go hunting or protect themselves.

the suspect purchased a knife inside the store and then turned it into a weapon.

Now that's quality journalism right there.

I wonder if the journalists would have written the same about James Holmes: "James Holmes bought his guns in June and several weeks later, upon entering the theater, turned them into weapons!"

Goes to show some bias, I suppose.

Good for him, this is the kind of situation where an armed civilian can and did do good.

I just hate hearing gun nuts compare this with the theater shooting, which would amount to a circular firing squad in that particular situation.

No doubt this particular instance the shooter took advantage of the environment knowing his actions would blend in with a violent film, be covered by darkness and confusion. Nonetheless, if you were in the theater, would you personally prefer to be unarmed or armed? I'd like to have the option to decide my fate if I was not among the first to get shot.

As a martial artist, I have to ask-what about knowing how to take away the knife and subdue the crazy man with your bare hands?

Sure enough, not a bad option if you've got the skillset. I have a good buddy who is an expert MA with a focus on Filipino style, who argues that within 20 feet someone with his skillset can generally disarm someone with a firearm.

    Me? Heat.
