A Model For Honesty In Politics,
deanrite said:
Sorry, old hat. I thought of that over ten years ago- even before robin Williams referenced the idea in one of his comedy routines. But at least you would know who the recipients of your tax dollars would be. Another plus is we get the pleasure of seeing politicians be thoroughly humiliated (which is exactly what they deserve). - On 13 May 2011

Why I don't want to buy your flip,
deanrite said:
The one thing that bothers me about these fix up flips is, what is it they are covering up? I watched a two story house in my neighborhood that had a mold ring between the first and second floor. Guys came in, ripped a bunch of stuff out of the inside. They apparently "fixed" it up on the inside, but the outside was just painted. The wood siding was all warped and they had the flashing between the first and second floor installed incorrectly. Is an inspection going to uncover this shoddy "repair"? I doubt it. When I see one of these cute "fix-ups" i just wanna run the other way. - On 7 May 2011

Why do Americans still dislike atheists?,
deanrite said:
I always find discussions on atheism to be an exercise of proper definitions. It seems more often than not an athiest is described as having a belief that no god exists. This is mistaken. A true athiest just has no reason or compelling evidence to believe a god does or does not exist. To have a belief one way or the other takes a leap of faith, which is not atheism. If, as an atheist, I am confronted with overwhelming evidence that god does in fact exist then I would certainly accept it as fact.
In fact, I would say that an atheist is no more than a non-believer. That is without compelling evidence there is just no valid reason to believe. I always find it amusing that believers always feel the need to force non-believers to declare a belief in something- even if it's little green men, ghosts, angels, or prayer.
