The place is terrible. My father is a resident there. He is 92 and on a ventilator. Granted, he is a nasty SOB, but they are not doing anything to help him get better. He is a $24,000 a month cash cow and their rates are going up. He has been there for almost a year now and they have not done anything to try to wean him from the vent b/c that would mean less $$$ for them. All they care about is $$$.

They called me on Christmas Eve (yes, Christmas Eve!) to ask us to pay the bill. I realize that day is not a holiday to most on their staff (no disrespect to non-Christians intended) but it is for us! I would never call someone on a holy day asking for $!

Don't ever send your loved ones there!

I have not heard good things about this place, nor any other facility in the Five Towns area. I've heard about some Catholic facilities in Queens that I understand are good but are so hard to get into you need political pull to get in.

If you follow the above links to the state licensing agency website, you can read the actual complaints from the past surveys. Find the facility under the "w" in the alphabetical search. Look under the inpection and enforcement tags at the top. You might have to look around a bit but they're there.

There is a tag for physical restraints, but it affected only one patient and isn't a systemic problem. There are several lesser tags - more than the average for that state's facilities, but there haven't been any fines & penalties according to the enforcement tag.

This information doesn't mean that a facility is great or not - it's just another piece of the puzzle. Have you looked at other places in the area? Have you voiced your complaints to the administrator? You can also contact the state ombudsman about this and they will investigate.
