UC Davis Police Surrounded By Sitting Students! Only way out was Pepper Spray!

Annette Spicuzza, UC Davis police chief, told the Sacramento Bee that police used the pepper spray after they were surrounded. Protesters were warned repeatedly beforehand that force would be used if they didn't move, she said.
"There was no way out of that circle," Spicuzza said. "They were cutting the officers off from their support. It's a very volatile situation."

Hahahaha. Bootlickers: 1. Boot Stompees: 0.

C'mon bloodshed. I want these dirty bottom feeders to start fighting back. Men of stature and merit demand our entertainment. This is boring.

This was on the evening news last night. These kids learned nothing about capitalism from their schools. Best protest is with your feet, simply drop out and go elsewhere. Prices only drop when customers refuse the pricepoint and leave.

Every one of them chooses to keep paying and whine instead. Too naive. And where were their parents in teaching them the most important lesson in life.

Fort Wayne, it's even worse than that.

While they complain about their student loans, you can ski with their ski club at Borreal this winter. Or white water raft in the Sierra foothills with one of their rec clubs during summer. Took me till I was well into my 40's to have spare cash enough for those kindza fun. But saw the poor overhocked UC Davis kids at those venues the first time we went to it.

Don't forget, Greek house dues are high, too.

UC Davis has a kick-ass machine shop & manufacturing facilities (my fiancee went there & I go with her for picnic day most years). It all likely cost $millions. Maybe the whiners should pick majors that take advantage of all those investments.

Harassing police and enclosing them in mob circles doesn't seem like the brightest of behavior. Non-violent resistance & demonstration is one thing, and a good thing most of the time. Actions that are reasonably perceived as threatening to law enforcement officers is pretty dumb. They should probably make that a set of questions for the SAT so college kids know a thing or two before going. That, and "don't drink the bong water, no matter how bad your cotton mouth is, man."

Clearly this policeman feels threatened and surrounded by the MOB that is err.... passively sitting on the ground.

Yeah watch that a few times and tell me again how these cops were REACTING in fear for their own safety..... or just admit you sucked up a pack of lies written to attempt to adjust actual events to suit the police. If they were actually spraying the people AROUND THEM who were chanting, the boot-licker version of this story would make sense. But it makes no sense at all since the people on the ground were just sitting there passively and thus not a threat. What they WERE was a block from going FORWARD with their orders which probably went something like "make an example & disperse the rabble".

Merely the act of sitting by the underclass is offensive enough to merit action. Although with mold infested heads so close to the laces of the officers' boots, I question why swift kicks to the melons were not optioned over pepper disinfectant spray. Stupid lazy pigs.

They weren't blocking a road or access to a building, just sitting down on a sidewalk running along a park, one had to go maybe 10 feet to the side to walk around them.

I noticed the cop twirling and making gestures with the pepper spray with glee, as an in-joke with his fellow overseers, just before he unloads.

Also, the cops were so threatened by the unarmed sitting students, who seem to be mostly girls, they're laughing, talking, and appear to be cracking jokes with each other.

The real jerk is the UDavis Admin, which invited the cops to come on down.

"We regret the situation", but not apparently the fuel they added to the situation themselves.

    Everybody act surprised!!!

Name one sit in, that didn't eventually end in a similar outcome?

Protests are tolerated because they are mobile, cops with shields and riot gear can at least herd them, to where they want, in a way there is some simile of compliance. Sit downs are a disregard for authority to "Move out of the damn way". You have the right to sit where you want in this country, but you don't have the right to block the rights and access of others, with your efforts. That is when you stop being the disenfranchised and become the infringer.

Two wrongs don't make a right and all that...

They weren't blocking shit. Like I said, they were sitting on a sidewalk that ran along a park. Any schmuck could have walked the 10 feet to either side around them.

However, I agree with you that protests don't do shit, unless they're unbelievably huge and diverse (ie not just composed of one main group, like students or middle aged white people, we haven't seen those kind since before the 60s) and they don't even dare the authorities to risk looking bad, since the powers-that-be have trained Americans to be contemptuous of protestors regardless of their position (left or right, whatever the issue), so the authorities will pepper spray and beat with glee and abandon to general apathy (or encouragement from some circles).

Well I'm still waiting for that ONE successful sit in, that didn't end with a beat down or forced removal.

If you want me to not have apathy for a few overly privileged kids, acting up and getting put in place, then you'll have to respect that all people these days gets roughed up by the Police if you don't comply to their orders. Especially when you think they don't have the legal authority to do so. They love that, they'll crack your coconut for good measure.

You want to call attention to the Police state we've become, then "Hell YA!" where do I sign up? But if you want to just expect me to say "Poor college rich kids, those cops have no right".

I say bullshit! Their face is just a good for a Pepper spritz, as the "Don't tazer me Bro" dude was for an electrocution. That dared to speak up against the Mr Liberal 2004 pageant winner.

You folks seem to want a different set of justice for you and your agendas, while everyone else can suck wind under the boot. I don't get it.

    I'm sorry, I don't get it.

What difference should it make WHO is doing the protesting... white privileged college kids... hispanic lesbian professors... black retirees... Left-Handed Midget Eskimos...

Who is being "Put in their place?" What place am I supposed to be in? Who decides who goes in what place? Did I miss the vote on this?

I thought in America, everybody was equal under the law.

If you're saying that some people get the jack boot more than others, for doing the same or less, then I agree. However, it doesn't mean that those get it less deserved to be stomped on for no good reason, other than some pompous upper-level university admin was mildly irritated.

Actually you bring up a good point, to why I can't be bothered with the 99%. We've been needing a good old fashioned taking it to the streets for about 20 years now. But people can't be bothered until things effect them directly. Then they only demand retribution for their situation.

There's so much to demand for right now, and so many people we could name in the protests. The most these kids can muster up is their tuition gripe, grandma and her Social Security in the sights of the Federal Ghouls can pound sand. In fact these same brats if you ask them, they could do with out SS, and Grandma should have been born young, and hung on to it.

Yep. Several years ago, an officer in SJPD drew her gun on me, trembling and shouting at me while I was surrounded on three sides by other officers who were fortunately for me, cooler heads; it happened because of a hoax in my neighborhood.

okay, so what if they are kids from privilege? the fact that they're privileged kids makes it all the more poignant. doesn't it make you wonder these kids who apparently have so much to lose are so worked up about that they're willing to risk arrest and assault to make their point heard?

I think we don't want apathy from you, we want caring. caring to wonder what is the actual point of what they're doing. what is it they recognize is so bad that they're willing to go through this ESPECIALLY if they're lives are so comfortable?

Linda Katehi's relocation perk from Illinois was 100K. You mean there's no local talent? How many Community College Cal Grant A's could we've paid for with that 100K?

Then again, I suppose you need to bring someone in from out of state to deal with the locals.

Yes, protesters are such privileged whiners. We should totally support the cops as the violate our collective civil liberties because of petty and often imagined class differences.

WTF? Seriously? Why are we resurrecting this?

Read the Reynoso report commissioned by UCD. It's entirely conclusive that the cops were not surrounded or threatened into "defending" themselves. Video evidence from multiple sources prove it.

Yes - join the army - great idea. Receive $1,500 per month (less than $10/hour), be told where you'll live, what you'll do and how you'll act. Be ready to join a war we didn't need or want and possibly die or be maimed - and then have your government ignore your disability. Or better yet, when you're discharged you'll find you can't get a job anywhere because the army doesn't prepare you for a career.

That's much better than having a peaceful (constitutionally protected) demonstration while attending college that provides an education that will allow you to have a job that pays substantially more than the army pays.
