Obama beats everyone in his strongest showing since April. Newt would lose by double-digits while Romney and Ron Paul are both 7 points behind.

Well, when they elect presidents using a CNN poll, it would be significant news. Since they don't yet, you'll all have to wait until November 2012.

Do you think Newt and Romney care about CNN polls?

Like it or not, national polls almost always correctly predict the outcome of an election. The only exceptions are extremely close races, and Rasmussen. (the worst performing poll agency by far and the most biased)

    http://fivethirtyeight.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/11/04/rasmussen-polls-were-biased-and-inaccurate-quinnipiac-surveyusa-performed-strongly/

Interestingly, all polls seemed to reflect a Republican bias according to this study. I first noticed this in 2008 when Obama was predicted to win, but lose states like Virgina and Indiana.

In 2010 the polls were even more biased towards Republicans. People don't remember it now, but in 2009 the Pubes were crowing about taking both the House and the Senate in a landslide.

More on how pathetic Rasmussen can be: (from Wiki)

"He (Nate Silver of the NYT) singled out as an example the Hawaii Senate Race, in which Rasmussen showed the incumbent 13 points ahead, although in actuality Inouye won by 53 – a difference of 40 points, or "the largest error ever recorded in a general election in FiveThirtyEight’s database, which includes all polls conducted since 1998".

The deeper you dig into the neoconservative propaganda machine, the more rot you find.

Obama's been trending up for a while now. Rasmussen recently released an LV poll at the higher end of the recent range with a net approval rating of -1%. Very tight. Perhaps they updated their models.

    http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/other/president_obama_job_approval-1044.html

Silver thinks it's because the economy has been doing much better lately. The last few jobs reports reports have been beating expectations, and we got another good unemployment applications report today.

I think if you look at an electoral college map you might get a different result than your CNN (Communist News Network) poll.

If the homeowner isn't insulted by your offer...you didn't bid low enough!!!

Yeah I actually did that to make sure Obama's popular lead was also an electoral lead.

    http://thepage.time.com/2011/12/11/bam-tops-gopers-in-floridasouth-carolina/

Obama wins in South Carolina and basically murders both Newt and Romney in Florida. Again.......it's not even close.

I think all the rational people here realize that Republicans cannot win the White House without Florida. Whatever happens in Florida, both Ohio and Pennsylvania are going to swing a bit more to the blue side giving Obama an easy win. For all practical purposes, no other states are in play.

I will also mention that other polls show a statistical tie between Romney and Obama in Florida, but Gingrich doesn't have a chance in any poll from anyone. This pretty much confirms what most people are saying, which is that Mitt Romney has a chance to beat Obama but Newt Gingrich has no chance whatsoever and will basically guarantee Obama a 2012 win. So I guess it's GO NEWT!!!

    2012 Presidential Matchups
    Election 2012: Romney 45%, Obama 39%>

    Thursday, December 29, 2011

Mitt Romney has now jumped to his biggest lead ever over President Obama in a hypothetical Election 2012 matchup. It’s also the biggest lead a named Republican candidate has held over the incumbent in Rasmussen Reports surveying to date.

The latest national telephone survey finds that 45% of Likely U.S. Voters favor the former Massachusetts governor, while 39% prefer the president.

I think we're going to find that the polls are waaaay off when votes come in for all caucuses, primaries and general election. Here's why...
"One important potential shortcoming for both surveys: Neither samples mobile phones. As the Washington Post reports, the most recent estimates find that 29 percent of Iowa adults had a cell phone but no landline in their household."
    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/12/29/iowa-caucus-mitt-romney-polls_n_1174235.html

I don't know if Iowa cell phone use is consistent with the rest of the country. If anything, it may be lower. I have not had a landline for years. More and more people I know have dropped their landline.

Nothing Rasmussen publishes is valid. Like every other aspect of the right wing propaganda machine, it's corrupt and dies in the sunlight.

    http://fivethirtyeight.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/11/04/rasmussen-polls-were-biased-and-inaccurate-quinnipiac-surveyusa-performed-strongly/

"The 105 polls released in Senate and gubernatorial races by Rasmussen Reports and its subsidiary, Pulse Opinion Research, missed the final margin between the candidates by 5.8 points, a considerably higher figure than that achieved by most other pollsters. Some 13 of its polls missed by 10 or more points, including one in the Hawaii Senate race that missed the final margin between the candidates by 40 points, the largest error ever recorded in a general election in FiveThirtyEight’s database, which includes all polls conducted since 1998."

Lets be real clear. Any polling agency that misses a Senate race by 40 points regardless of circumstances is utterly worthless and should be held with total contempt forever. End.

I don't follow the logic. The problem with Ron Paul is Ron Paul, not some conspiracy to keep him out of the White House.

Support doesn't grow if he becomes the nominee, it shrinks because people find out what he's really about.

The general election is 10 months away. None of us has a crystal ball to predict what events will happen in those 10 months to change minds of people being polled today.

But, here is another problem with polling. I reached voting age a loooong time ago. I have been called for a political poll exactly once in all those decades. Statistically, shouldn't I have been contacted more than that? The polling does not catch a representative sample of voters.

Also, on that one and only time I was asked to participate, my poll answers were thrown out. The questions are worded in such a way that I could not choose a legitimate answer to one of the compound questions. I told the polster that I did not agree with any of the available answers that question, so I was choosing not to answer it. She said that she could not submit an incomplete set of answers and hung up on me.

The polls are going to be wrong. Count on it.
