"SAN DIEGO — A San Diego real estate agent and mortgage broker, his wife, and seven others were charged Tuesday with conspiracy, fraud and money laundering in a multimillion-dollar mortgage fraud scheme that prosecutors said targeted low-income immigrant home buyers.
Realtor Eric Elegado, whose smiling face is a fixture on outdoor advertising around Mira Mesa, pleaded not guilty to a 12-count indictment in federal court. He was arrested Friday and was ordered held on $100,000 bond. Elegado, 47, is the owner of E Real Estate & Loans and E Real Mortgage Inc. in Mira Mesa.
Also charged was Charmagne Elegado, 47, the wife of Eric Elegado. She worked as an account executive at New Century Mortgage."

Conspiracy, fraud, and money laundering. I'm shocked. Absolutely shocked.

Does anyone ever plead guilty anymore? In the face of piles of evidence, they will always plead not guilty unless offered a plea deal.

Guilty?
Every one of these suckers will go to their graves screaming that everything they did was EXACTLY the way everyone in the industry worked their trades - and that they're patsies for a government looking for someone to blame.
They're at least half right.
While it might be nice to see these people become contrite and throw themselves upon a flaming pyre, it would be much nicer to see all the executives of the companies that paid lobbyists to deregulate the financial crimes industry to oblivion precede them in the death march.

And to think there are people in dire need of them fully functional organs. Life is not fair sometimes.
I agree with APO, but the reality is that you take down who you can. I'd love to see the commission checks between 2002-2007 for these jokers. All on the backs of people who should never have been looking at housing.

The brokers have xerox copies of them and stroke off to them at night.
That will last until they're eaten by starving cannibals.
