Study: Wealthy More Likely To Lie or Cheat

The "upper class," as defined by the study, were more likely to break the law while driving, take candy from children, lie in negotiation, cheat to increase their odds of winning a prize and endorse unethical behavior at work, researchers reported today in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

Taken together, the experiments suggest at least some wealthier people "perceive greed as positive and beneficial," probably as a result of education, personal independence and the resources they have to deal with potentially negative consequences, the authors wrote.

Mr. Moneyworth, have you been taking candy from children again?

Obama is wealthy. So I conclude that report must be accurate. Got any poor candidates we can get behind, and put him in a position where he can make and control more money than a banker has ever seen?

Obama is a scumbag. So are all the Republican contenders except Ron Paul, and that's including all those that have dropped out already.

Certainly even less so since your favorite supreme court decision "citizens united"...

    More chart porn here:

I liked "High Status Vehicles more likely to cut off pedestrians."

Needs a bigger sample size in the beater category, though.

    I liked this assessment:

“This work is important because it suggests that people often act unethically not because they are desperate and in the dumps, but because they feel entitled and want to get ahead,” said evolutionary psychologist and consumer researcher Vladas Griskevicius of the University of Minnesota, who was not involved in the work. “I am especially impressed that the findings are consistent across seven different studies with varied methodologies. This work is not just good science, but it is shows deeper insight into the reasons why people lie, cheat, and steal.”

As an individual’s wealth and status rise, so does their tendency to be unethical, concludes a new study of the relationship between socioeconomics and ethics.

More reason why no one higher than the 80% should be allowed to hold office or be appointed by a public office holder. And the rule I'm proposing would prohibit me from holding office. That's how much I believe in it.

No surprise there. Some people are just assholes, and they advertise it with things like cars, gold chains, and country club memberships.

Face the facts, wretches. Rules don't apply to men of stature and merit. We're not constrained by laws, ethics, or moral codes. We are truly free.

The underclass lives in bondage to ideologies, religions, and governments. They hope for justice or a rewarding afterlife. Their lives are wasted.

I live and enjoy true freedom. If you don't like it, then you shouldn't have been born poor.

It's amazing people still fall for that con. It's the oldest trick in the book.

And, it is probably one of the worst tricks as well.

While I think that delayed gratification is important at times. I would like to see what life on this planet would be like if people stopped worrying so much about getting into heaven, and tried to make this life heaven.

I would like to see some sort of truth in advertising laws applied to religions.

No organization should be able to plug for $ based on claims that they can not prove.

That would effectively end all religions, as every religion was created by a fraudster trying to gain wealth, power, and/or sex.

I don't think that it would end all religion, just the financial exploitation of people through religion.

Professional clergy, and large organizations that need donations to survive would end -- think, catholicism, scientology, mormonism etc. However, I think that small groups of individuals would still meet to preform religious rituals. Also, an already rich guy like Romney could finance his own religion for the power and/or sex motivations.
