The neighbors are ticked. While they're slaving away on their 30 year note, this guys sets up camp for free.

Some people play Monopoly with "Free Parking" giving you the money from all the fines/taxes, etc. But that's not in the rules.

Same board, same pieces, same just about everything, and it works.

It all depends on which rules you want to follow and which ones you don't

$16 is still too much for this home. If he waited 1 more year he could have filed the same paperwork with the city for half the cost. ;)

What a loser. It's one thing to live as a homeless person in an abandoned house, but if he thinks that he will be getting a free house, he has another thing coming.

This ran last July on the Dallas station. Oh sure, it makes for a good tease for the evening news so one sits through the commercials and watches the story, but that's about all it's good for. This guy isn't going to get title to this house, no way, no how. Since this ran 10 months ago the banks lawyers could have gotten him out by now for all we know.

I hope he gets it. The other home owner in the neighborhood need to mind their own business. They don't complain when they are given free money to make it look like they built up wealth. If this guy can legally get the home, then good for him. They really couldn't afford the home either, if it wasn't for the heavily subsidized "everyone deserves a home" program. If they really were a good neighbor then they would have helped out the family when they were in foreclosure. The guys is the only sensible person in the film from my view.

Nobody wants a deadbeat in their neighborhood. On one hand you have decent working people who pay their bills, and on the other hand a deadbeat loser.

You're rooting for the wrong side.

The deadbeats are the ones that are so focused on other peoples issues that they turn the neighborhood into a group of vigilantes. Replace the black guy with a sophisticated looking supermodel that noticed the loophole when he/she was studying for the bar exam, and this wouldn't even be a story. The neighborhood would be talking about how lucky they are to have such a genius now living in their neighborhood. These people are the wrong side. The guy is a genius!

This guy Robinson is doing the right thing. Almost every civilization has had adverse possession for 2 reasons: 1) To prevent a society's land from falling into a few landholders hands and 2) to keep land in productive use.
My only advice to Robinson would be to find a competent real estate attorney--these actions can get very complicated and you don't want to lose on some petty BS. I wish Robinson the best of luck!
