Forgot to mention...
Just like in China and other unfree nations, the solution is to run the Tor Browser Bundle, a variation of Firefox running under a Tor enabled network stack. This won't interfere with your normal networking operations, but will allow you to access any blocked site.

Nlayer.net is a private company and they are free to do as they please. You are a private citizen and also free to do as you please.
Instead of all the complaining and fake drama, why not simply change Internet providers? That is the free-market solution.
China has nothing to do with your problems.

I've noticed you become more pesky on a personal basis, monthly. Kinda like a gnat. How would you feel about changing your handle to Gnatograph ?

So I can lay down fiber optic on public land? These so-called private companies are given a lot of privileges to create networks. You can't have a nationwide wired network without using public land. Now if things were as even as you imply, then I'd have no problem with nlayer. Then again, under conditions of equality, there would be more first tier ISPs than people on the planet.
Now an interesting idea is to create a world-wide ad-hoc wireless network, perhaps by piggy backing off the smart meter spy network.

I'm under comcast and it does not appear to be blocked to me.
It is a private company and yes they can do a fair amount just like At&t.
What if it simply becomes a satellite based one? Direct tv and dish network buypass much of the local regulation because there no physical cable.
