The law says that child tax credit is reserved for US citizens and residents. Mexican citizen children living in Mexico do not qualify. You do not need to change the law - you need to enforce the existing one. How difficult is it to find people who submit fraudulent claims? TV reporter did not have much trouble doing it. Is it possible that if this type of tax fraud increased since 2008, it is related to the depression we are in, and the severe drop in construction and other work often done by undocumented workers.
By the way, immigration from Mexico to the US is now reported to be negative (I wonder why ?).
If Obama gets blamed for the increases in tax abuses by undocumented workers, can he get credit for the fact that net immigration in to the country (especially of illegals) is the lowest it's been in decades ?

It would not destroy our economy since the vast majority of illegals are doing work that isn't really being seen legally. This is low end work. Illegals are hired because they are cheap. There are no illegal alien researchers doing work at CalTech or MIT, these people are not applying for tenure at Brown or engineering a new car at Ford nor are they designing chip sets for new computers or working in the biotech industry.
When Ceasar Chavez stupidly organized farm workers in the 70's the reply was that big agra then automated the bajezzus out of the industry. Yes of course there is still employment but it caused illegals to go further north and get into other areas. Now there are nannies/babysitters/maids, manual labor for tile work, roofing, flooring, plumbing and maybe electrical. In some case even care of animals (I'd bet some work for one of the riders of the Kentucky Derby).
To argue that that the economy would get worse is simply saying we would have to pay more for labor. In all due respects in the environment we have today how would that be a bad thing? I don't think we've had significant labor inflation since the 70s. Wages will naturally go up if there is a scarcity of workers.
Some talk about the idea of amnesty but even liberal economist Paul Krugman states that it would be devastating. Why would any country actually want more poor people?
Ironically deportions are at a all time high under Obama. We're going after those that have done violent acts which frankly I don't think anyone can defend.
It can be argued that illegal aliens pay sales taxes and meals taxes but generally there can be ways around those. If you buy food and cook it that is one way around and shopping online avoids sales taxes. If they pay income taxes then the TIN they are using is fraud and that is a felony.

You have a habit of building a straw man and fighting it. I am not suggesting that water be given to businesses for free. Taxpayers should not be paying for delivering water to California farmers. There is a cost associated with water delivery and that cost should be covered by consumers (farmers). Perhaps the best way to manage water is to have yearly auctions where interested parties would bid on available quantity.
In addition to direct revenue when selling water, the economic activity created by increased crops production brings bigger tax revenues to the government.
A better example in your question would be a protest from Texas: "Why do we need to pay for Gov. Moonbeam's high speed rail utopia?"
I noticed that you chose not to mention this project when I asked about it.
I am not against EVERYTHING run for collective benefit. I am against government waste and management of economic issues for the benefit of political parties (campaign contributions).
I am against a government program like Obamacare. If it was truly a beneficial program, which would deliver services and reduce costs as promised, why have numerous politically connected businesses and unions asked and got exemption from participating?

Once wages are depressed of course you won't see many Americans doing those jobs. Good example is meat processing industry. In the past it paid good wages to legal residents and over time they employed more illegal aliens and wages dropped.
This is an issue where government has a legitimate role to play: making sure that competition in the market is fair and nobody takes competitive advantage by employing cheap slave labor.

I'm in a position I thought I could never be in. I'm too young to get medical help and on the other side not old enough to get medicare. I can go to ER and get treated but hounded for the bill whereas an illegal can go and get the same treatment and walk away never to pay a dime. The point is along with the tax fraud they commit so do they tap into all of our social systems costing legal tax payers billions through welfare fraud, food stamp fraud,etc. Guess who will pay for this in the end.
