Telling someone that they're an idiot for believing something just makes them believe it more. If you want to stop people from believing in fairy tales, teach them science and reasoning.

Either the hypothesis is true and verifiable or its false. If it contradicts observation and the laws of nature, then it is clearly false as do both the spiritual world conjecture and the flat Earth conjecture. A socially accepted lie is still a lie.
