To anyone who has been following city development over the last few years, this was no surprise. It is exactly the plan everyone knew was coming. It clearly intends to free up land on the east side of the city, now openly talked about by developers as the next opportunity for them...Behind all of this is the effort by the city to evade using eminent domain, made more difficult thanks to the residents of Poletown, who attempted to ensure that what happened to them would not happen to anyone else. After years of court battles and legislative effort, the city cannot simply declare areas cleared for development. Further, the city cannot take homes without fair compensation. In other words, it’s a lot cheaper to try to drive people out than to legally take property for public purpose...
Concerted push by cities to vacate land by using blight

This is what is happening nationwide. (I'm watching it in the KCMO area on both sides of the state line.) Who does this affect? People who own homes whether the individual or the investor.

Heck yeah, turn off the street lights, fire service, bus service, etc., etc., and just wait until the neighborhood is completely trashed or worthless. Sure, lol, the land beneath your feet was sold out from under you, you don't really own it, that's why you are taxed on it.

I heard a rumor that Mayor Alioto of San Francisco got rich by withdrawing police protection from certain areas of the city, deliberately letting crime get out of control, then buying up land in those areas at greatly reduced prices.
Then he reinstated police protection, waited for property values to recover, and sold with a huge profit.
It's good to be the king.

Many moved to the burbs to avoid the crazy drug infested hippies. There wasnt much of an economy going on in SF anyway.

You have lots and lots of vacant commercial property in Santa Clara and Fremont today. It would be very easy to convert to new residential property. Drive near Solynda HQ in Fremont or Central Express in Santa Clara.
