Why any woman would vote Republican is beyond me.

"Paycheck Fairness Act," a measure that aims to strengthen the Fair Labor Standards Act's protections against pay inequities based on gender.

And that's the problem. It shouldn't be about gender. The law should be equal pay regardless of any property other than performance, and even that's pretty vague.

The fundamental problem with the payroll system used in just about every non-minimum-wage job is that salaries are not transparent. The company knows what everyone makes and even demands to know what you have made in every single job you ever held -- why the fuck can they demand that information?

But you as the employee or perspective employee have no clue what everyone else makes -- well, you can go to glassdoor.com, but it's not that helpful -- and that's by design. The corporation doesn't want you to have that knowledge because it improves your bargaining position.

The bottom line is that the bean counters don't give a rat's ass if you own a dick or a pussy. They only care about getting you to accept the bare minimum salary you're willing to work for. And it just turns out that men are far better negotiators of salaries than women. Why? It doesn't matter. You can chuck it up to men being willing to risk more and walk away from jobs if you like. But the bottom line is that men negotiate better for salaries.

If anything, men should be pissed off at women for being such poor salary negotiators because it lowers the market rate for whatever work is being done. Piss poor salary negotiation by women lowers the salaries of men.

Of course, even men aren't paid the same for the same job. One guy could be making $70/hr doing the exact same job as they guy in the next cubical who's making $35/hr. I work in IT. I see this all the time.

The only solution to this complete transparency in salary information at all levels. Every person has to be able to query the salary of every other person in the company even before they accept a position. In other words, we have to give up payroll privacy, which really only benefits the corporations who want to keep us ignorant of what our work is really worth.

A further step would be to track precisely how much wealth is created by each person and demand that 80% of that wealth goes directly to that person, 10% to government, and 10% to the corporation. Of course, precisely measuring wealth creation is a difficult problem -- although I don't think it's impossible -- and people will try to fuck up the measurements. However, under such a system, the wealth gap would be minimal compared to what it is today, and wealth accumulation would not be a zero-sum game where the parasites are rewarded and the hard-working punished.

Paycheck Fairness Act. Thats for the gullible. Once you learn to read between the lies, you'll understand to reverse the stated government intention 180 degrees and you'll be closer to the truth.

Example's: Social Security is really Socialized Insecurity. The Patriot Act is really The Unpatriotic Act. "Voluntary Taxes" are not voluntary in the least. The Department of Defense is actually The Department of War. The Paycheck Fairness Act is in reality The Paycheck Unfairness Act.

Whoever said life is fair? My dad taught me that when I was ten.

    Bad lesson.

Life isn't fair, but we should still strive for social justice and equality under law. It's our responsibility to future generations to make life more fair than it was before we came into being.

Yes, that takes effort, but every generation should strive to make the world a better place than they found it, and that means increasing fairness whether we are talking about racial civil rights, homosexuality, economic opportunity, or ending the exploitation of the powerless.

The fact that perfect fairness is unachievable should not deter one from trying to improve upon the fairness of a system.

    Quote from the original article:

"...The legislation, sponsored by Sen. Barbara Mikulski, D-Md., would require employers to prove that differences in pay are based on qualifications, education and other "bona fides" not related to gender. It also would prohibit employers from retaliating against employees who ask about, discuss or disclose wages in response to a complaint or investigation. And it would make employers who violate sex discrimination laws liable for compensatory or punitive damages. Under the bill, the federal government would be exempt from punitive damages.

    ..."

Why am I not surprised that Democrats want to keep goverment exempt from punitive damages? This bill is nothing but political grandstanding by Democrats.

Both parties would likely do that.
