That was really funny. It shouldn't reflect poorly on Paul though because
1) He pays into the system more each year than he gets out of it (he says)
2) You can be for raising taxes while not voluntarily sending in extra money each year.
Pubs use #2 argument all the time saying...
'If you want to raise taxes just send in extra money each year.' That argument of course is a load of crap. Many business leaders want good environmental regulations. They want this, because they don't want to be awful polluters. At the same time, they cannot voluntarily subject themselves to standards that other business do not follow. If they did, they would go out of business. So, you need a fair rule set that everyone follows.

If he really believed it's an evil to be axed, he'd work to DISMANTLE it right now, and he wouldn't accept a check from it. But he's another politician who knows better than to touch the third rail, he wants some change that will only screw things up well after he's dead and gone and doesn't have to fix it.
Real Libertarians, like Rose Wilder Lane and Isabel “Pat” Paterson, refused benefits and were staunch advocates of dismantling.
Ayn Rand accepted Social Security and MediCare, so at least he's following in the well-trod footsteps of a hypocritical liar.

HEY YOU says
from the article... he is in favor of YOU having the option and choice to own and manage your own retirement account.
Currently neither YOU, Ron Paul, or anyone have a choice, since its taken out of your earnings. Therefore not a hypocritical liar as some would like to spout... What choices do you have today ???

Paul is outspoken about the need to end government programs like the Federal Reserve and the departments of energy and education.
But he said he would not eliminate programs like Social Security and Medicare, despite his belief that the programs are unconstitutional.
He planned to allow citizens under the age of 25 to opt out of the system in order to save their own money for retirement, if elected to the presidency.

If he were a True Believer, he'd live it. He'd make it happen, starting personally, right now, no half-measures. Taking Social Security checks is not "getting back your money", your money was spent the same year in a loose sense. Money he's taking right now is coming from people working right now. If he and millions of others stopped taking their checks, then the program would have to be recognized as no longer needed and wound down. He could START A MOVEMENT by being the first to publicly tear up his SS check on camera and resolve to never cash another one. Ron Paul could exhort his followers to follow his example starting with the richest ones first of course, and with enough public support fan that spark into a flame. No, Ron Paul is much like his hypocrite son who rails against MediCare meanwhile taking money from it and saying he "deserves" to make a decent living. Ron Paul is just another demagogue with a megaphone and a bunch of rubes who listen despite his demonstrated inability to live up to his high-sounding words.
The saddest thing is not the crazy old man who got out of the attic, it's the worshipful Paulistas who think he's a goddamn Oracle.
