You want to look for Leviathans in the making? Look at local & state governments which DO actually show a lot of growth. So all the "State's rights" numbskulls have it completely backassward with their concept of elevating governors above the Federal government as a "solution". What we have here, is a clear case of Witch Hunters determined to find witches. The fact that there are no witches won't stop them. When an article contains lines like: "The upholding of Obamacare is just more evidence of the totalitarian jackboot that continues to be pressed down upon on America’s collective throat." Well at least it makes it easy to "spot the lunatic", because these types see imminent Nazism (sometimes Stalinism) lurking behind every tree.

The washington times says it's the largest payroll ever, the tables say the federal payroll was 10% bigger in the late 80's to the early 90's. Obviously the term "ever" is flexible if you are a partison rag with a readership measured in the thousands. You are aware that the washington times is primarily distributed as a free giveaway paper in the DC subway system aren't you? It's not exactly considered heavy weight journalism. There is the fact that the population has grown something like 80% since federal government peaked in the late 60's. Leviathan???
