No cable bill. Kid's clothes were cheap (often sewn by mom, no "starters" or "nikes"). Also small houses with one modest car per family. Kids toys cheap (no "playstation"). No day care bill, babysitters cheap. Hand washed cloth diapers, hand washed dishes, meals cheap because wife bought basic food and prepared meals (husband's favorite food in the 50s and 60s was meatloaf). Very few divorces (today's divorces are a huge drain on family money). About all this talk on "degrees." I noticed that so many who feel shortchanged because the "economy" does not sufficiently reward them for their degree, never say what the degree is in.
