Why?, the governor was afraid of them, it likely would have turned the tide on his recall election. When they showed up at the protests, people cheered louder than ever, thanked them profusely for their service, and toleration of an ever growing stupid society, still, they know they are next. So, instead of going into public service, you go into the military instead, partially, it's still all about following the money.
