Romney could, in one swift move, destroy Reid's credibility by releasing his tax returns, if he's done nothing wrong. Why hasn't he done it?
We know he has major "truth issues"
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/us-politics/8959440/US-election-2012-Mitt-Romneys-life-as-a-poor-Mormon-missionary-in-France-questioned.html
http://factcheck.org/2012/08/romneys-impossible-tax-promise/
http://thinkprogress.org/economy/2012/08/03/634941/romney-jobs-2013/
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2012/08/03/1116443/-Lawmakers-want-to-know-how-Mitt-Romney-built-a-100-million-IRA
So it's utterly fair to assume he's hiding something big. Here's the "top ten" possibilities:
http://www.salon.com/2012/08/03/10_theories_on_romneys_taxes_salpart/?mobile.html
And bonus, don't forget that Romney demanded to see Kennedy's tax returns at one point:
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2012/07/16/1110448/-Romney-Demanded-to-See-Ted-Kennedy-s-Tax-Returns
The guy is a public mess, it's just going to get worse... Personally my favorite from the list above is number four:
"4. It’s the IRAs
Mitt Romney has an Individual Retirement Account, just like you probably do! But unlike you, Mitt has somewhere between $20 million and $101 million in his account.
We know that the maximum amount one can contribute to an IRA account is $17,000 per year (employers can match that with up to $30,000)..."
I'm really curious to see where that one goes.

Wait, there's more:
Mitt Romney was caught lying about where he filed his tax returns in 2002. Now he says that we're going to have to trust him...

1- The investigation is needed to determine if the information is credible. That's what investigations are for.
2- If Romney never paid any taxes, then harry needs to have his source vetted to eliminate internal corruption in the IRS..ie..employees leaking private tax information.
I can understand why you would not consider the above if you were a proponent of crime.

Your link is to a biased opinion piece written by a democratic political strategist.
He is labeling Romney's refusal to release private information a "tax problem".
It is yet to be determined if this is any kind of problem. The exit polling on election day will determine if this was a problem, if Romney loses.
Thus, your whole argument about "Romney's tax problem", at this point in time, is much ado about nothing and has been effectively neutered.
Case Closed.

At this point in time, no one can answer your questions due to lack of information. An investigation will provide that information.

Sorry but that doesn't change anything.
1. The information is credible and Romney didn't pay any taxes for a decade.
2. The information is not credible so there's no reason to investigate.
What YOU want is simple bullshit and doesn't make any sense. You want Reid investigated for information that you believe to be false. Wanting to investigate someone to find out if he has fake privileged information is ridiculous.

Not knowing whether the information is credible or not means that no one can determine which of the two questions you posited is accurate.
Yet you continually blather on about how no one is answering your questions, which at this point, are unanswerable.
What I want is for Reid, who pubically (pun intended) proclaimed that Romney paid no taxes for 10 years, to back up his assertion with solid evidence. Not hearsay, innuendo, but with solid evidence.
So which is it?
1- Reid is guilty of slander
2- Reid is guilty of manipulating the IRS into illegally divulging private information.
I know....you can't answer my questions without an investigation.
Case Closed.

Yup, however one of them is accurate. Which one do you hope is accurate? That Romney earned hundreds of millions of dollars but didn't pay any taxes, or that Reid is innocent of any wrongdoing?
Of course there's a third possibility, one in which I didn't mention because Republicans couldn't bear to think about it. It's a horror story which lets Reid off the hook completely and destroys Romney:
3. Reid is not privileged to IRS information but he's right anyway.
xrpb11a says
I don't need to answer the question because I'm happy with all three scenarios. You're not happy with any of them.

Xrbp11a you're more concerned with deflecting the discussion away onto Reid than discovering any truths! Investigate Reid! That's rich. and the way you keep repeating "informants within the tax dept" when Reid has already said otherwise...
Here's something we currently KNOW is in illegal territory: Romney has an IRA that at most can have no more a few hundred thousand contains multiple millions. What's the truth of how THAT happened?...

Also, lets form a group "returners" and just like the "birthers" lets wait for Mitt to release his tax returns and then scream about how they're not the real tax returns... (someone on reddit came up with that)
but the thing we need to do is... wait for Mitt to release his tax returns.

It is hard to believe the stupidity of the Romney and his surrogates. They fall for this statement by Reid that Romney didnt pay taxes for ten years which is, I grant you, improbable. They spend their time saying, yes he did pay taxes and Reid's a lier but can't prove because the only person who can put the issue to rest is Romney who wont release his tax returns. They have been suckered into a argument they cant win and which distracts from the issues they want to focus on. What a bunch of rank amatuers, over confident after demolishing their primary opponents who had little money and were clowns. Like him or not, give Obama's campaign its due as they are mopping the floor with Romney, who's only retort seems to be to take Obama's speeches and cut and paste them into things that only their base would believe he said, pitiful.

The IRS, controlled by the department of the Treasury, controlled by the white house, apparently has no problem with romney's IRA.
If he built his IRA within the legal parameters of the system, so be it. If you think that is unfair, lobby to change the rules. Don't castigate someone for playing within them.

What we say is that "it is unknown what taxes Romney paid. That is private information which may be made public at Romney's discretion."
Are you able to distinguish the difference between what you said below, and what we have been saying all along?
Or is it that you just like to make shit up as you go along.....

This is the court of public opinion, not a court of law. You don't get it. Romney is insulting us by not clearing this up with his tax returns.
He is losing in the court of public opinion. He wants to be president. We are not arguing his civil rights. Sheesh. Dumb and dumber.

You miss my point. Why are Romney and his people engaging in this debate? It shows ineptitude from a political standpoint to engage in an argument you can't win, on a subject you don't want to speak about while everyday ticks off toward the election and Obama is at least holding his own in the polls.

I guess the issue here on this board is what kind of a person you want in charge of and representing your country.
http://www.vanityfair.com/politics/2012/08/investigating-mitt-romney-offshore-accounts
"Where the Money Lives
For all Mitt Romney’s touting of his business record, when it comes to his own money the Republican nominee is remarkably shy about disclosing numbers and investments. Nicholas Shaxson delves into the murky world of offshore finance, revealing loopholes that allow the very wealthy to skirt tax laws, and investigating just how much of Romney’s fortune (with $30 million in Bain Capital funds in the Cayman Islands alone?) looks pretty strange for a presidential candidate...
A person who worked for Mitt Romney at the consulting firm Bain and Co. in 1977 remembers him with mixed feelings. “Mitt was … a really wonderful boss,” the former employee says. “He was nice, he was fair, he was logical, he said what he wanted … he was really encouraging.” But Bain and Co., the person recalls, pushed employees to find out secret revenue and sales data on its clients’ competitors. Romney, the person says, suggested “falsifying” who they were to get such information, by pretending to be a graduate student working on a project at Harvard. (The person, in fact, was a Harvard student, at Bain for the summer, but not working on any such projects.) “Mitt said to me something like ‘We won’t ask you to lie. I am not going to tell you to do this, but [it is] a really good way to get the information.’ …"
All things in line, he's done a poor job of representing internationally, and he's handling personal issues terribly at home. As one person above says he's being played by the Reid/Obama team so far - I'd agree with this assessment - and he has picked an absolutely looser technique to try to weather it, the equivalent of a schoolyard fingers in the ears and and mumbling "la la la...".
And this just one of the latest high profile flubs. Personally I wonder, in addition to wondering how he built that IRA, what issue will come up NEXT. There's definitely going to be more.

No, you don't get it.
Regardless of what 'court' it is, if reid wants to put out an outrageous statement, he must back it up with proof, not hearsay.
This is the politician that represents you reno-ites. Why do you want him to appear like a talk show host, instead of the senate majority leader of the United States of America?
Have you no respect for the title or office??
