Honest Abe says
That is because the position of the conservatives on this issue is boneheadedly stupid. Only a meathead would be satisfied with Romney's command that Reid prove his non payment of taxes when the lamebrain Romney has the tax records. I hope you aren't a meathead, Abe. Really I do.

But it will cook Romney's election chances. And it looks bad. And it probably needs to be a loophole that is CLOSED. It is not criminal because the criminals are making the laws.
So, do you get paid by the hour or by commission for posting, XRPB? You never answered that.

Well, at least the left's talking points are consistent everywhere... dodge the question.
"One more on Harry Reid. It's a simple question. Does the president think that this allegation coming from Harry Reid, without any evidence, made on the Senate floor, is that below the belt? Does that cross the line?" Karl asked.
Carney responded by saying that President Obama believes in full disclosure of tax documents when you are running for the presidency.

Agreed, up to a point.
When other people start bleating how romney didn't pay taxes for 10 years, based on what reid said, as an argument on this forum. then it becomes an issue here.

I'm enjoying this whole reid/romney fight.
republicans: whaaaaaaaaa. someone made unsubstantiated and easy to refute claims about romney's taxes. whaaaaaaaaa. take back those mean things you said!
democrats: if it's not true prove the the rumors wrong by releasing your taxes.
republicans: whaaaaaaaaa.
meanwhile in crazyville...
republicans: obama's not a citizen he was born in kenya! show us the birth certificate!
obama and the state of hawaii: here you go.
republicans: it's a forgery! show us the real birth certificate.
obama and the state of hawaii: we showed it to you.
republicans: it's a forgery! obama was born in kenya!
romney's son: http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2011/12/romneys-son-jokes-about-obama-birth-certificate-college-grades/
"When the Romney sons were asked in New Hampshire today whether their father would release his tax returns, Matt Romney said he didn’t know the answer, but went on to add that he’d heard someone suggest that dad might do so as soon as Obama releases his college grades and birth certificate."
Romney on Trump: http://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/229943-trump-overshadows-romney-with-obama-birth-certificate-comments
the ultimate point being that if you don't want to play these kinds of games don't start them in the first place. it's refreshing to see the democrats meetiing assholery with assholery.

I agree with everything you stated below.
No, I don't get paid by anyone for posting here.
I still maintain:
1- It is Romney's right to withhold any private information about himself that he chooses, to his detriment or advantage. It's his risk.
2- What we don't know:
* How much tax Romney paid for the past 10 years
3- What we know as of today:
* Romney has not broken any laws regarding his taxes, based on the non-action of the IRS.
* People calling him a criminal here without any facts are just plain wrong, and I am pointing that out at every turn.
* People on this forum, saying romney didn't pay any taxes for 10 years, based on reid's hearsay, have 0 evidence to back it up.
* That people here will counter my arguments about them using non-factual information by saying "Romney can clear everything up by releasing his returns", which does nothing to address them using non-facts in their argument, but is merely a diversion. How Romney can "clear everything up" is not what I am arguing. I am arguing the non-facts being thrown around as a basis to degrade his image.

hearsay refers to testimony in a trial, saying what someone else said, when that person can be supponeaned and tell for themselves what they said... Not applicable here at all.
What you may be attempting to refer to, would go under the title of slander... but truth is a total defense of slander. And mittens would have to expose his tax records to prove it wasn't true...

Wait, are you saying he merely took $2500 and picked stocks so well that he made a few million?
Wow, I think we found Peter Lynch's replacement. Move over Warren Buffett. Junk Jesse Livermore.
Nah. I bet he was playing silly buggers with classes of stocks in companies he controlled, managed, or otherwise had the inside track on.

It's not necessary to dodge the question because the only ones who care about the question are Foxbots.
Trying to turn outrage against Romney into outrage against Reid totally misses the only target that anyone cares about: The November presidential elections to which Reid isn't even on the Senate ballot.
How Romney turned an IRS-limited IRA contribution into a hundred million dollars or more is a legitimate question about his integrity. Republicans who try to excuse him are like cops who see a homeless man walking down the street with 100 Rolex watches in a backpack......who then want to make the guy mayor. It's barely possible that he got all those gold watches legally, but not even questioning him is idiocy.

Wow, you really went overboard proving Abe's point.
I really think all this anger exhibited by the left is a byproduct of the economy, the number of people unemployed, and the jobless rate.
This is Obama's Achilles heel. They know it is the single biggest weapon Romney has, and it has them paranoid and scared shitless.
So on forums like this one, they bring up things like offshore accounts and shipping jobs overseas and non releases of tax returns.....anything to keep the subject away from the economy.
But the reality of the situation is that most people don''t give a damn about any of the distractions. They just want a decent job so they can put food on the table, a roof over their head, support and grow their family. And if one president is not delivering, they will replace him. And if one segment of congress is obstructing, they will replace them. And they will keep replacing everyone until they get a configuration that successfully implements policies that will address their situation.

this situation is awesome. in order for romney to do anything to reid he'd have to take him to court...and in court his tax returns would have to be brought forward as evidence. even if the tax returns are sealed the outcome of the trial would provide evidence as to the truthiness of reid's claims.
if reid is telling the truth he wins.
if reid is lying he still wins because romney would end up with a serious image issue for not releasing his taxes. makes him look even more suspicious.
ha ha ha ha ha.

Romney is screwed. But he deserves to be screwed. In fact, few deserve it more than him. Maybe Greenspan and Rubin and the gang allowing toxic loans should deserve it more, but Romney hired economists who supported the last housing bubble.

Well, that is an outright lie because Romney has not been silent on the question of "if he paid taxes the past 10 years"

Romney already proved that if you outspend your opponents on attack ads during the final days of an election, you can win. ( see the primaries..florida, et al )
He is raising a lot more than obama. and he will unload this massive nuke a few weeks before the election, OB will be outspent.

Even Obama's lackeys acknowledge this....
"[W]e still got beat -- and not by a little bit," Ann Marie Habershaw, chief operating officer for Obama for America, said in a press statement on Monday.
"If we lose this election, it will be because we didn't close the gap enough when we had the chance," she told Obama's supporters in the hope more contributions will pour into the President's war chest.
Current war chest:
Romney: 160 million
Obama: 100 million

We're talking about federal income tax. Romney said he paid "a lot of taxes every year" which sounds like Bill Clinton saying he didn't have sex with that woman.
I would pay a lot of taxes every year too, even if I didn't file a tax return. There are lots of taxes we all pay.
You have failed to provide even ONE instance of a Democrat or liberal denying reality.

harry reid never stated romney never paid "federal" taxes, he stated romney never paid taxes.....
If you infer that Reid was talking about "federal taxes", then it is only fair to infer romney was talking about "federal taxes".
so I have provided you with TWO instances of lies in these forums, and the day ain't over yet!!

Then Reid figured everyone would assume he was talking about the federal tax return because no idiot in the world would assume that he was talking about ALL TAXES including food, fuel, property, etc.
Disingenuous.

The problem is that no one was talking about lies and you've got a lunatic definition of lying anyway. We were talking about instances of people denying reality.
How can you have a conversation if you don't remember what it's about?

Well, since that was the subject matter Romney was commenting on, you have to assume Romney was talking about "federal income taxes" too.
So, to summarize:
* Reid accused Romney of "not paying any taxes for 10 years"
* Romney stated he "paid taxes every year"
* It is inferred that both were talking about "federal income taxes"
* BGAMALL4 said: "Romney's silence is evidence" ( on whether he paid taxes or not the past 10 years)
Therefore, BGAMALL was not stating a fact by stating Romney was 'silent' on the issue.
Therefore, This episode counts as one example of people being non-factual on this forum, an example provided by me to you, per your request.
Case Closed.

Normally that might be true, unless you were talking about someone extremely defensive, worried he might not become president, and embarrassed about the true story.
In that case you might define taxes like Clinton defines sex. Conveniently.

Contrare, you're the one making all the assumptions.
I'm assuming Romney is human, and I'm assuming that Romney's tax returns would be devastating to his campaign since he's fought so hard to keep them private.
Therefore it's not a stretch at all to think that Romney was doing some double-speak ESPECIALLY since he didn't (and wont) clarify anything other than this one simple generic phrase: "I paid a lot of taxes every year".
So does everyone. That's not what people are asking.
