Easy enough. Congressional subpoena for tax returns or bank statements showing payments to the IRS.

Does Mitt really wanted to play this game?

Dirty Harry is senile, and should be water-boarded until he remembers who told him Romney didn't pay taxes, that would help him remember.

But this election isn't about Romney's taxes, its about Hussain oBAma's failure.

If Reid is right... all he needs is a court ordered subpoena.

Had the IRS thought Romney was hiding taxable income in foreign accounts or tax avoidance, they would have already had called him and his CPA in by now.

Frankly, Reid should be sued for slander...

Actually, a tax payer like Romney has his Tax Planning and Filing done by a CPA/Tax firm as do many other wealth people.. As such Romney's return is reviewed for accuracy and IRS compliance by several people.

Had there been any tax avoidance, it would have already been exposed by his CPA directly to the IRS. Unlike lawyers, there is no client confidentiality when it comes to CPAs. But you already know this.

Ask the IRS, they already had his returns going back since his first job!

People like Romney with various interests already get audited consistently by the IRS. This is no news to many with such wealth.

Doesn't Reid need to prove his accusations?

You are serious? Why should Reid need to prove anything when Romney possesses the proof? Earth to Ruki. Romney has the proof.

You are engaging in the Theater of the Absurd. Glad you read my article, although your response that Reid should provide proof maybe shows you didn't read it.

Surely you understand your position is completely absurd. But based on your other positions on this board, perhaps nothing is absurd to you Ruki.

But what are issues with the IRS may not be the issues of the American people, ie, aversions to offshore accounts, aversions to the rich paying less than they do.

It doesn't have to be illegal to show Americans what a pig the man is. And this piggishness is exacerbated by his desire to give more tax breaks to his 1 percent crowd. Disgusting.

you are demented if you believe the CPA firm that filed the Tax Return should should of on purpose report/pay more than what was required by law.

by that, every American today is a PIG for having investments and paying the required capital gains taxes..

and of course every tax payer / home owner who sold their home and claimed a exemption of $250K/$500K on gains is a PIG.

ignorance run amok. the IRS would only look into illegal tax avoidance, while romney has more than likely used legal but sleazy trick to avoid paying... It is ironic for someone running on a platform of cutting taxes to avoid showing their own tax situation... a point lost on some very non critical thinkers on this blog.

tax payers get audited.. its a fact of life.. the more complex the return.. the higher rate of chance in IRS audits. Partnerships and Partners get audited very frequently...

what exatly is sleazy trick by Romney! what proof do you have ?

the return as the link shows was prepared by PriceWaterhouse, and independent 3rd party! are you going to claim conspiracy as well.

Mitt is winning this one. The comments here often are flawed. Cannot subpoena records without just cause. Too, Mitt is right to demand Harry put up or shut up. Harry made an assertion, publicly. It is his obligation to back up his assertion. It is no more Mitt's obligation to disprove Harry than it would be for Harry to disprove the recent thing I heard, not sure who said it, perhaps not true dontcha know, that Harry rapes kids. Right? ;)

bgamall4 is mistaken. If Romney or anyone in casual context in fact accused Harry of such an act, it indeed would be their obligation to come forth with information, or face slander suit. The "heard it", "not sure" is the hook to avoid slander but does not remove the onus of who has obligation to provide proof.

Similarly, if Harry accuses Mitt of... anything... if this line of inquiry is to be pursued, it is wholly Harry's obligation to cough up info. Otherwise he can be dismissed simply as a monster. Mitt has no obligation, whether or not he has any information about... himself... to cough it up to... disprove... another creature's wild claims.

That's how it works here, even if partisan opposition might wish otherwise. This points to my claim that Mitt benefits from all this.

It does not matter what you wish Mitt to need to do.

Lol, let Romney sue for slander. The taxes would be revealed. Go ahead, give Romney the advice. Then when the trial comes and he refuses to reveal his taxes he will go down farther in the polls. This is a political issue, not a legal issue. Romney needs to do what presidential candidates do.

It is absurd for Romney to say put up or shut up when he has the proof. Are you guys all from Mars? Is there no logic on Mars or common sense?

bgamall creates another Straw Man, arguing against an irrelevancy as if it matters or as if it was something I asserted.

It matters not if Romney sues. Oh yeah, how do we then say... LOL LOL LOL. SIgh.

You clearly admit my point of principle by trying to distract as to whether Romney will sue.

I note again, in dicussion/debate, he who assert must prove, or he who asserts loses. Dirty Harry made the assertion. That he cannot back it has cost him dearly. Thus, my assertion that Mitt wins.

This of course is nonsense. No one has to defend himself against unsubstantiated rumor. Of course, Ol' Joe McCarthy advocated that, but then we see how Joe ended up.

He who makes unsubstantiated claim has the obligation to back it, whether or not the victim of his slander has information to disprove it. Or, is it true that Harry rapes kids?

This of course is nonsense, mixing the direction of the problem in the two cases. Mitt was not accused by a police report, so MItt has no obligation to prove... anything. Harry made assertion, Harry gets to prove it. The more folks whine this is not the case, the more Mitt... wins. I love it.

No. You are quite wrong. What I said is true whether or not the potential victim of slander has proof. No one in USA is obligated to prove a slanderer wrong. Rather, the slanderer is obligated to prove himself right. Romney can sit on the proof forever and still wins this case. This of course is not about (though some would like to so distract) about whether it is a good or bad thing (and for which party) for Mitt to release taxes or not. It is about a claim made in the Senate by a Senate Majority Leader... apparently baseless.

That you retreat to ad hom insult in face of your inability to argue issues is... telling.

    Charming :)

He is accused in the court of public opinion. If he wants to be president he will cough up the returns. Why wouldn't he want to prove Reid wrong? He would get a lot of political mileage out of that. Only a Mitt would not understand that, and his lame followers.

There is no "Court" of public opinion. He is accused by political opposition. If Bohner mentioned that Harry raped a kid, but he's not sure, and will not say who told him, one wonders if the Left would embrace the charge...

Meanwhile, Mitt is winning, as in getting better mileage revealing Dirty Harry for coarse slanderer and basking in being victim of Joe McCarthy-esque political hate crime.

Again, I find it interesting you retreat to Ad Hom insult, unable to argue well the issues. Charming. :)
