I don't go up to the ATM worried a witch might jump out and rob me, so, I say they can hang around.

    Had being the operative word.

In America, you're free to join any religion you want as long as its Christianity.

The Army has never had a Wiccan chaplain. No branch of the military recognizes any Pagan seminary, despite 15 years of repeated requests and petitions. They have also not publicly stated WHY they refuse to recognize them, just that the matter is "under consideration." After 15 years? Yeah right. The DoD now recognizes the Wiccan pentacle as a valid symbol on headstones, but it took a lawsuit from the ACLU for that to happen. One of the reasons I separated from the Air Force after 6 years was the complete lack of respect for my religious beliefs (I'm a Wiccan). You have no idea how bad it is unless you're there trying to fight for the same rights everybody else has and being told your religion's not good enough.

I heard the Air Force Academy in Colorado has a real problem with non-evangelical Christians.

Yep, saw a documentary on that very subject just a few weeks ago. It was an older pre-2006 documentary which discussed Ted Haggard's New Life Church and how its influence permeated the academy.

I wonder how those nice young men felt when they discovered Haggard not only solicited gay sex but is a meth addict as well.
