The novel’s centerpiece is a 64-page speech by John Galt, the angry elite’s ringleader; even Friedrich Hayek admitted that he never made it through that part. Yet the book is a perennial favorite among adolescent boys. Most boys eventually outgrow it. Some, however, remain devotees for life.

Actually I used to love that section of Atlas where they talked about the REAL value of a dollar. That it's about what is BEHIND that dollar and the real work it represents, not the piece of paper or who can "take" it. That money is not inherently evil resonates.
I grew out of Randism eventually. Once I started to realize the biggest boosters of Rand were a bunch of financial middlemen who never did an honest days' work in their lives. The most poisonous aspect of Randism IMO is how it justifies sociopaths, and how ANYONE can twist themselves to be the "producers" who should defy all the "moochers".

I think you are talking about the Hymn to Money by Rand.
I do think she had good ideas on money, her moral outlook was very immature though.
To be more specific, she glorified selfishness as an attribute, but never really could comprehend the value of mutual co-operation.
The fact that a person running for the second highest office position in the country is a religious follower of Rand's morals is scary.

I'm not a Jew, but the most balanced and comprehensive approach to money and work I've ever read was written by one.
Thou Shall Prosper: Ten Commandments for Making Money (Hardcover)
Daniel Lapin
Lapin gives his views on how to choose a line of work, how to grow a successful business, and how giving to those in need helps us personally. It was quite life changing.
I have also read Atlas Shrugged, and found it very long and self repeating. The money definition part rang true and stuck with me, but IMHO the book was about 700 pages too long.

LOL, how is that an example of the free market? Abe, the examples you pick to prove your point are also poor.
Since the recession, auto sales have recovered decently.

Geez Uomo, now I'm supposed to explain to you how the public NOT buying the Volt is an example of the free market. You don't seem to know what the free market is, am I right?
