What's the deal with Fox??

If Fox is so biased, right wing, conservative and all the other four letter words many posters here call them, why the hell do they get so many viewers compared to the other cable news stations and the network stations???

They are more up on the stories they report than anyone.

Fox viewers (other than those who think Fox is a comedy channel) almost always place last or near last in general knowledge surveys. They are extremely ignorant people and again you demonstrate to everyone that you don't live in the real world.

    http://publicmind.fdu.edu/2011/knowless/

Sunday morning news shows do the most to help people learn about current events, while some outlets, especially Fox News, lead people to be even less informed than those who say they don’t watch any news at all.

    http://www.people-press.org/2010/09/12/section-4-who-is-listening-watching-reading-and-why/

Fox viewers got the highest score for all questions answered wrong and all but one questions answered wrong.

liberals are envious of the rich, just because they think that tax rates on higher increments of income (ie income above say the first 250K someone "earns") should go all the way up to half of what it was in 1960 !

I think this sums up the philosophical argument. The idea that one group of people can take from another group of people by using the police force of the State as a means to extortion. The basic premise of the income tax was based on class warfare. Furthermore, the tax itself is very difficult to collect and is wrought with loopholes that require billions of dollars in accounting fees. Those who have some wealth they are trying to protect, spend their efforts avoiding taxes rather than creating profitable enterprises that share the wealth through wages. Don't get me wrong, I understand the fundamental argument over the income tax. I just simply disagree with the principle and think that it actually creates more poverty rather than improves the lives of the working class.

If that were true then you wouldn't say such an absurd thing as:

    JohnLaw says

Most sensible intelligent people believe in balance. For example some very sizeable investment by the government in infrastructure, and education and research is good for our future, without risking communism.

Also, there is a very legitimate argument to be made as to whether some tasks such as military, health care, education, mail service, police, fire and other services including government itself should be provided to the people by the government and not by private enterprise.

Again the idea that even moving in this direction is communist, or extorting from the rich is such childish and stupid rubbish.

All politicians know that the only way to get money in taxes is to tax the vast body of the middle class. Taxing the wealthy won't accumulate enough. The tax target always was and always will be the middle class.

Only liberals believe in the "looting" philosophy, find somebody who has something, knock them over the head and take it from them. Who cares if the engines of production are destroyed in the meantime.

Go down to the local store, steal everything off the shelves, have a party. The fact that the store will no longer be there tomorrow to serve the community doesn't matter. They'll just find somebody else to rob later.

I agree the wealth disparity in this country is a scandal. However, that does not mean that looting the wealthy will solve any tax or budget problems. It is a decoy for politicians.

Tax codes are complex because Democratic royalists rob Peter to pay Paul, i.e. tax the middle class while creating complex loopholes for themselves so that they can keep their own wealth. I don't see the Kennedys or the Gores giving it away, they lock it up tight in multi generational trusts that require squadrons of lawyers and accountants that their poor deceived subjects can't afford.

So when Bush took the social security surplus and gave it to the people (majority went to high incomes) in the form of supposedly temporary tax cuts, that wasn't looting. (oh and then Bush put two wars and medicare part D on the credit card).

But when "liberals" say, can we please end those cuts as you promised, that is somehow looting the rich.

I couldn't make up supposed "logic" as twisted and transparent as yours if I tried.

The social security system has been nothing more than current cash flow from paychecks and a stack of IOU's for a long time through all administrations. It is an equal opportunity pot from which the government has been sipping. I seriously doubt that you could point to a specific agency which has funneled social security money into tax breaks for the wealthy.

I agree the wealth disparity in this country is a scandal. However, that does not mean that looting the wealthy will solve any tax or budget problems.

The reason higher rates would work is two fold.

Most importantly, by making making taxes highly progressive (higher income increments taxed at higher rates (but possibly tied to the level of the last years deficit (or not)), this puts an incentive on wealthy politicians, and lobbyists, and everyone to support fiscal sanity.

I know that being fiscally sane is not in vogue.

But tell me, if powerful rich people's tax bill were tied to the degree to which our government spends beyond it's means, would that not be an incentive for prudence ?

We would have everyone wanting the other guy to not get his special govt welfare, rather than what we have now: "hey you got your piece,...that's okay as long as I get mine too."

Nobody truly cares about the deficit. "It's not my problem."

It's called paying your bills, and I think we as a country need to look in to it.

Our military and the self perpetuating industries attached to it might be the biggest reason for this.

Then there's just the issue of fairness. If taxes are higher on higher increments of income, this is not going to prevent anyone's wealth from increasing. Their wealth still grows exponentially.

So this is such total bullshit:

    Ceffer says

Go down to the local store, steal everything off the shelves, have a party. The fact that the store will no longer be there tomorrow to serve the community doesn't matter. They'll just find somebody else to rob later.

Fairness is important. But the first reason - motivating the powerful to be less corrupt, by actually paying our bills ? I know we won't do it, because it would lead to less influence of money and more influence from the people. But you have to admit, the logic is sound.

I'm sure it has nothing to do with the fact that Fox News has absolutely stunning female newscasters. Seriously, beautiful women! Much nicer to look at than Anderson Cooper or Rosie Odonnell.
That is why they smash the competition. Maybe it's shallow, but I'll put up with the extreme slant to get my news if the person delivering it is serious eye candy.

I didn't know that Fox was so controlling that they can get you to push their channel number on your remote control.

In many areas, there isn't much choice. On cruise ships at sea, often the only channel is Fox. The MetroPCS "MetroWeb" used to advertise full access to stream Fox, but limited access to other sites. Fox is a NewsCorp Frankenstein motivated partly by profit and partly by Roger Ailes' and Rupert Murdoch's quest for political influence, powered by the NewsCorp satellite distribution engine, encircling the globe.

    Quigley says

I'll put up with the extreme slant to get my news if the person delivering it is serious eye candy.

...and people who only watch Fox don't even perceive the slant.

The issue is, the big 3 network newscasts (ABC, CBS, NBC) all work for PhRMA, and even PBS works for the DC major-party establishment. Among American sites, that leaves CNN, MSNBC, and Democracy Now! (Some people also have access to Al Jazeera, BBC, and RT.) It's no wonder people who have access to CMDY turn to The Daily Show and the Colbert Report.

I actually force my self to watch Fox news because of this board complaints. I don't get it, what is the beef? They report more news than any other network. And after an hour, I've been caught up on every topic for the day. After that it's really a rehash of those stories.

FOX has more Liberal against Republican debates or commentaries than any other network. FOX actually allows Democrats to come on and defend Liberals and bash Republicans as stories dictate.
Juan Williams FOX pulled him out of the NPR piss storm, you'd think he'd be a loyal Republican now, but now, he's the republicans biggest critic.

I don't get the hatred of FOX I've tried many times to see what it is that you guys hate so much. Perhaps it's that I can't even bring my self to watch more than an hour, it is uneventful. But certainly not biased or skewed, not to the degree this board would have you believe.

I wish Fox would just be honest and hire guys from the Stormfront to bark death threats against Obama while standing in front of fields of burning crosses and firing automatic weapons. That'll excite the base. After Romney is elected, they can switch to demanding that all Arabs be nuked and all non-whites 'self-deport' to wherever it is they came from, or should be from. They can end each news broadcast with a Justice and Mercy Posse segment of the anchors riding around shooting and raping non-whites in the name of Justice and Mercy. Viewers can enter lotteries to join the posse and rape dying mud-people on camera and receive a commemorative plaque for their contributions to Freedom.

Spending 40 seconds editing a post is what you call fucking up ?

I call it being a little lazy and not worrying about the chance that someone reads it in that brief time, and if they do,...so ? The edit is always either a slight grammar or spelling change or in this case an addition because I thought generalizing that all people such as yourself are white trash was unfair.

The truth is I always do it that way and it's a conscious decision. Occasionally, such as this time, I make the observation that I really should do a separate text edit phase, but....in the end it doesn't seem worth it.

    "fuck up,"...? Hardly.

It's not only what the news organizations say, it's also what they don't say. For instance with Fox if a repub was in power, they would not investigate anything at all and would never postulate conspiracy theories. Same with MSNBC if a dem is in power. Due to this, I think that it is no longer and perhaps was never appropriate to deem Fox and MSNBC news organizations. They basically belong in the editorial section aka opinion section with vast majority of their content. What we truly need is an impartial news source with a professorial analysis tone, such as take issue X, discuss positive and negative consequences of issues/proposals talk about risks/rewards etc instead of this verbal diahrea that we get from Fox and Msnbc.

More accurate to simply say, white and relatively low intelligence, and overly affected by their fly over state community with it's list of fears and prejudices against progress.

For some reasons, these hillbillies also tend to dislike those who eat sushi - they instead prefer to fry water if they can and place 10 pounds of sugar in iced tea.

Melissa Francis is another matter. When she comes on Fox Business or occasionally does an appearance on the big network, I go crazy. That full size frame and long legs and blond hair and big gorgeous brown eyes...she's like a drug. She always acts the Harvard grad she is but also like a lady, never appears on camera without her legs covered. Whew...I'm gonna have a heart attack just talking about it.

I really shouldn't watch her. It's that bad. Cue the klaxons from the original Star Trek...
