Obama has shown he's capable of "mixing muscularity with restraint," extricating the U.S. from wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, avoiding direct intervention in Syria, and resisting "the push to recklessly attack Iran" — all while relentlessly going after terrorists and playing a limited but key role in forcing regime change in Libya. Meanwhile, the world sees Romney displaying "the hubris of the powerful and the ignorance of the uninformed," thumping his chest and scaring folks overseas.

Outside of this country, any intelligent viewer can't begin to fathom why Romney would even be considered.

Actually inside we also all know that there's no comparison. But the economic devastation that we have not as yet finished recovering from, and the huge deficits it has caused are the reason Romney has a chance.

Way too many idiots in this country, that have no clue about the depth of the economic freefall of 08 - ? , nor the impact that GDP being so far below projections, combined with stimulating tax breaks had on the deficit.

Then of course there are all of those who do understand, and use for political gain, even while they know that nobody could have done much better.

I'm so tired of listening to people talking about "them dar' liberal media" and believing everything Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and Fox News spews out. Do a little research and I'm pretty damn sure anyone with common sense will agree that this economy was boiling up way before Obama came in the office.

I have this twisted conscience that maybe I'd want Romney elected so they can see what shit storm this country is gonna go into. Maybe they'll get a good dunk of reality then, but I'm doubtful they'll be any wiser.

Some people confuse the worst economy in 7 decades (that is the worst when the bleeding finally stopped, a year or so into Obama's presidency) with not having a record to run on.

Yes, of course, it's all Obama's fault. He caused it, and he didn't fix it fast enough.

Fortunately, since the entire country is not totally stupid, Obama may win in spite of this.

Answer this. Just how good does a president have to be to stand even a chance of being reelected in this environment ?

Yes indeed, look at that terrible economy. Look at what was happening when he started.

THose of us who follow the economy closely understand that this recession was nothing like any recession since WWII.

Uumm right.. this time is different! Obama and Romney don't have any significant differences whatsoever, that's why they share the biggest corporate sponsors. But hey, what's election night without being able to root for somebody who actually has a chance of winning ;)

Marcus, I get your sarcasm. Difficult to understand sometimes on the net. But the red line is because Obama was being frugal and not helping the states out enough. But Romney says he would be more frugal, but he won't. He won't help out government employment except for military. He will spend it all on more military.

How much military does the greatest power the world has ever seen need?

Then he wants to agitate Russia. Putin will have him for lunch. He cannot change the balance between Russia and the US. It is dangerous to build the missile shield which Putin has said he will destroy.

Romney is off his rocker. If you love your grand kids don't vote for neocons!!!

Yes, quite different. At the end of Reagans recession interest rates were near their highs of the past 100 plus years. (Prime rate had hit over 20%, and 30 years bonds had hit about 13%.

(actually rates were falling hard before the recession ended - but that's a really nice way to be coming out of a recession)

I'm sure you might not know much, but you might know that's just a liitle differnt than where things were and are "after" our recent recession.

I reckon the fed doesn't have a whole lot of room to lower rates these days (their favorite tool for stimulating the economy after a recession in recent decades)

    Just a liiittle different.

They have resorted to multiple QEs and still barely budging things enough. Turns out yeah, it's very different. Real Estate is way below where it was a few years ago, interest rates are the lowest they've been since right after WWII. Taxes have been reduced, payroll tax holidays, you name it.

Do you have any idea just how different this is from anything we've seen since the depression ?

If he gives his planned tax cuts and increases military spending, he will have to be frugal in many areas. Actually it is impossible without killing us.

You forgot the 2008 contributor list:

Take the top 20 and the difference is negligible. Not making the case for Romney here, just against Obama ;)

We should just accept Mr Bains supremacy and not challenge anything. Let him take away the MID, he knows best. In fact if he were elected, we should volunteer to cut our pay 20% so that job creators are credited with bonuses for cost cutting - that will be a true just reward to them in addition to having their own taxes slashed by 20%. Then, the children should write an oath of allegiance to Mr Bain on the first day after election just like the good soviet pioneers did to vladimir lenin when they got to be 10 years old. Long live Mr Bain for our happy childhood. We will cut our salaries by at least 20% out of gratitude for your benevolence. You are truly a Nietsche style overman who deserves to rule over the commoners fighting in the pit for scraps. Muqtada!

Maybe the foreign countries are all for Obama because that is the weakest thing that can happen to our country. Did it ever occur to the libs that maybe other world powers are competitors and would generally favor the candidate that was best for them and worst for us?

Guess the world is just full of "good" people whose altruistic motives for our country we should trust implicitly.
