GQ: How old do you think the Earth is?
Marco Rubio: I’m not a scientist, man. I can tell you what recorded history says, I can tell you what the Bible says, but I think that’s a dispute amongst theologians and I think it has nothing to do with the gross domestic product or economic growth of the United States. I think the age of the universe has zero to do with how our economy is going to grow. I’m not a scientist. I don’t think I’m qualified to answer a question like that. At the end of the day, I think there are multiple theories out there on how the universe was created and I think this is a country where people should have the opportunity to teach them all. I think parents should be able to teach their kids what their faith says, what science says. Whether the Earth was created in 7 days, or 7 actual eras, I’m not sure we’ll ever be able to answer that. It’s one of the great mysteries.

The age of earth was already beaten to death here.
But, how can you reject basic science? I am beginning to comprehend what iwog (and a few others) mean when they say Republican party's ideology is very identical to a fundamentalist religion. Complete lack of openness and objective inquiry.

They simply consider self-interest and truth to be the same thing: "If it benefits me, it must be true. If it does not benefit me, it must be false."
Once you start viewing the world that way, it all makes sense.

I think that's why the Fox-shock on election night captures the rightwing zeitgeist so perfectly. But I have reasoned it so!!! The Kenyan Socialist cannot win re-election---nobody likes him...the polls are wrong, and Nate Silver is a sissy!
And let's not get all caught up on the age of the earth...people have different interpretations of that too. Some say billions of years, some a few thousand. Either way, climate change doesn't exist, and if it does, it's not caused by us, and if it IS caused by us, it's good.
They believe in science...Republican science, as taught in home-school, or via Texas text-books.

It only works as long as majority of the population is willfully stupid. But they're not. Republicans will continue to lose the majority vote as they keep moving farther and farther right.
They need to move at least reasonably to the center to have a mathematical possibility of winning (Nate Silver mentioned this in his interview with Jon Stewart).

Pretty much any statement that begins with "I'm not a scientist" is going to be stupid.
Look, I'm not a scientist either, but I knew the age of the Earth when I was five years old. Man, if you've graduated from high school and still don't know how old the Earth is, you deserve no respect whatsoever.
There are certain things that every person in the 21st century should know, and this is one of them. The complete lack of curiosity it must take to remain ignorant of this fact in the day of Google is staggering. I mean, literally, all it takes to find out the answer to this question is five seconds of typing.
Anyone who doesn't even have that basic knowledge is someone who's opinion on all subject matters should be discarded. Uninformed opinions aren't worth respecting and neither are the people who hold them.

Sounds like the video describes minimum wage tech support people who don't give a damn.
And what the fuck does writing code have to do with placing a speaker near a hard drive? The guy obviously doesn't know the difference between software and hardware.
As for you disdain for engineers and scientists, it sounds like an insecurity complex. Engineers and scientists are the ones who made life as pleasant as it is today. Without us, you'd be ravaged by the Black Death or mauled by a wild animal after living on the edge of starvation for your entire life.
But hey, if you don't like what we engineers do, then stop using our products like the Internet.

This question is stupid, but I will still answer it -- since I earnestly believe that you can shed your ignorance.
The knowledge is science and education has to do with future productivity. These lawmakers are engaged in fiscal policy decisions which will affect the future productivity of the country and if you won't honor the overwhelming scientific evidence staring at your face, you will do stupid things that will run the country into the ground.
Now Republicans do sincerely want to run the country into the ground, as long as their bank accounts are sheltered in Cayman Islands.

It has a lot to do with governing. With all the evidence available, if you are willfully stupid and cling to fairy tale notions, then that speaks volumes about you as a person and how you will govern.
Perhaps that explains Bush. When 9/11 happened, instead of going after Bin Laden, he went after the wrong country and killed and wounded a lot of our soldiers -for what? This kind of misguided notion-the inability to separate belief from reality/facts can be very dangerous and damaging.
We only have to look at the Islamic nations to see where that can lead and what happens when Sharia law/fantasy belief becomes the accepted reality and anything other than that narrow band is crushed ruthlessly.

Your suffering from selective amnesia.. we did go after Bin Laden in Afghanistan.
Iraq was a different matter in which plenty of Democrats were all to willing to invade long before Bush became president. And they were all vocal of terrorists ties to Iraq.

We did go after Bin Laden? Really, for how long and if we had used all our resources you think he would have kept releasing tapes, mocking and taunting us while taking on new wives and amassing a huge stash of porn???
Bush had how many years after 9/11 and didn't get him?? Oh suddenly now Iraq is bipartisan? LOL-Bush was the commander -in chief . Now you won't even take responsibility for his actions-despite him flying in to give a speech under the ,"Mission Accomplished" banner. How on earth can you say that when Bin Laden is out there making fun of us while taking on new wives and increasing his porn collection??
People say a lot of things-that is part and parcel of diplomacy. It was not democrats that got us there. It is democrats that got us out and got Bin laden. The coward Bush could not even finish what he started.

Oh.. yea.. you think we can just waltz into any region and find these terrorists.
These things take a long time.. the intel and mil services had standing orders to go after OBL and they accomplished it..
The Israels are still going after PLO terrorists who massacred the Israeli 1972 Olympic team.. They too have standing orders.. eventually they all will get caught.

Thats funny! stashed.. thats an way over the top to call it that...
* Early in 2012, ABC News reported that Romney "has as much as $8 million invested in at least 12 funds listed on a Cayman Islands registry. Another investment, which Romney reports as being worth between $5 million and $25 million, shows up on securities records as having been domiciled in the Caymans."
There are many mutual funds and companies listed in the Cayman's as there are ADRs listed on NYSE.. none are illegal and many are open to the public to invest in.
so what is illegal about this ? Nothing...
David S. Miller, a tax attorney with Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft LLP in New York, told PolitiFact that tax-exempt entities, including IRA accounts, sometimes invest through Cayman Islands corporations to reduce their U.S. taxes. "Congress did not deliberately allow tax-exempts to reduce their U.S. taxes by investing through Cayman Islands corporations," Miller said. "However, the practice is widespread and the IRS has approved of it."
.
Walk down to your brokers office and invest into Logitec or Seagate.. its the same thing.

It is funny... there is a sharp difference with having "accounts" as in bank account in Cayman Islands vs having investments in Companies and Mutual Funds registered in the Caymans.. Anyone can have investments in securities registered in the Caymans.... To you this is all the same.. but there are sharp differences..
so now where are the Swiss and Cayman Bank Accounts... B-A-N-K....clearly this is wrong and false..
"He had millions in a Swiss bank account," the ad says, and in "tax havens like Bermuda … and the Cayman Islands.
"These are investments in third-party entities," Malt said, likening them to stock in Toyota.

And you wonder why Rubio parses his words? It's because the partisan Republicans will believe anything you tell them. It's as though any excuse passes through without their bullshit radar going off.
After all, it's one of theirs.
Which brings me to a question I think of often. If you pick an issue and pin them down the way we did pre-election, what would they say?
Take Immigration...what is the rightwingers position on immigration reform? What is unacceptable to the rightwingers here? Quick...answer it, before Fox tells you what to think.

No point being lost and confused.. Obama accused Romney of having Swiss and Cayman 'bank accounts' which the Media blew out of proportion by pointing to securities investments in companies and MF registered overseas. Investments anyone else could have bought... all legal and full disclosed.
Obama lied.. and you drank it up like it was holy water. What else did he lie about you havent picked up yet ?
