Approximately one hundred thousand people get shot every year--many suffering horribly or dying outright.
And somehow the gun sellers turn logic on its head and make the claim that guns make us safer.
But the truly bizarre thing is that even though for the great majority of people, guns only add more risk of death or grievious injury to life, there is strong popular support for guns.

Black Friday gun sales hit an all time record high last week with demand for new firearms so overwhelming that it caused outages at the FBI background check center on two separate occasions.
Fueled by fears that the Obama administration will go after gun rights during a lame duck term, the FBI reported 154,873 background check requests on Friday – a 20 per cent increase on last year’s record total of 129,166 checks.
“With the recent election, some people are making buying decisions just in case something (new law) happens,” Don Gallardo, manager of Shooter’s World in Phoenix, told USA Today.
Gun stores noted that first time gun owners and women represented a significant number of those purchasing firearms on Black Friday.

Hitler armed his people to the teeth. The whole political argument for guns is insane. Do you want Syria, Libya or Iraq?
And if we outlaw guns, of course police should be disarmed

I just don't understand the fear of guns. Is it because of ignorance of guns, or lack of experience? Its beyond my comprehension that some folk seem to believe that bad things happen because of guns. Its as if the people that commit gun violence are these good little saints that didn't intend malice on their fellow man, and a gun manufacturer is to blame for the gun crime, because absent the gun, said criminal would have never drempt up a way to harm their fellow man.
Yet I understand the reply from call it crazy about cars being far more dangerous. Cars are both very dangerous and even deadly, and people operate them without giving the dangers much thought.
How many people are harmed annualy by gun accidents? It would seem that most people that commit gun crimes, do them intentionally, so one would assume that absent guns, there would simply be another tool to replace the need for bad people to inflict harm.

There is no other weapon nearly as good at killing or causing grievous injury as guns.
And there is an argument for banning cars, but it has absolutely nothing to do with guns. It is really torturing logic to say we should put up with all the wanton death and mutilation caused by guns because cars are dangerous.
And 100,000 more or less are shot each year in the USA.

Absolutely. Personal maglift vehicles. Advantages:
1. Zero vehicular deaths.
2. Zero pollution.
3. Zero reliance on foreign oil.
4. No more oil wars.
5. No more oil spills.
6. No climate change.
7. No drunk driving. You just enter the address where you want to go like in a GPS or select from your favorites and the PMV drives itself on a smart highway.
8. No traffic jams.
9. No accidents to slow things down.
10. No gawker delays.
11. No intersections to stop at.
12. No slow drivers.
13. No crazy drivers.
14. Lanes can be built and added in three dimensions. Adding or maintaining a lane does not affect any other lane.
15. Traffic is automatically load-balanced.
16. Impossible to get lost.
17. Impossible to run out of fuel.
18. Impossible to get a flat tire.
19. Much cheaper energy costs.
20. Less maintenance costs since there are no moving parts.
21. No need for auto insurance.
22. Much, much faster than cars. 200 mph commutes inner city possible. Supersonic travel from LA to NYC possible.
23. Never have to park. Self-parking. Self-valet.
24. No need to waste surface area on parking lots. Parking buildings can house many more PMV than car parking buildings or parking lots. This frees up land for other uses.
25. You can fuck during your commute to work.
26. You never have to worry about being to old to drive as PMV drive themselves.
27. No need to carry around ID.
28. You can be pissed drunk and still safely get to where you want to go.
29. No speeding tickets, traffic lights, speed traps, parking tickets, or inadequate parking.
30. Tourism increases as it becomes far more convenient and fast to travel long distances.
31. You'll never have to fly again or put up with the TSA.
32. A world-wide PMV system could make it cost only a few dollars to hope over to Europe or the South Pole direct from your house.
33. Cheap space travel. Yep, you could stay in a space hotel that you can ride in comfort to in a PMV. I've done the math on this. 10 degree incline, spiral track with 1 mile radius, about 4 hours to get 70 miles above sea-level at 100 mph. 60 miles is considered outer-space.
Cars should be banned. They are obsolete.

Now, go another step and research how many people are shot intentionally, like errc said above, versus how many were accidents.
The data might surprise you.
Trying to outlaw guns might lessen some accidents but it won't lessen intentional crimes. Criminals will ALWAYS be able to find weapons to cause problems.

I was just using it as a point of reference. Because you have been around cars all your life, you accept them. Since you haven't been around guns, you have a big adversion to them.
The facts are, cars kill far more people than guns ever will. But your normallacy bias is that cars are OK and guns are evil.

The sole purpose of a gun is to kill. The primary purpose of a car is to get from point A to point B.
Now if a person deliberately kills or even non-fatally runs over another person with a car, the courts will consider the car a deadly weapon.
Arguing that guns are no more intrinsically a weapon than a car is absurd.
The real question isn't should the right to bear arms be limited as that question has already been answered with a "fuck yes" by both sides. You can't, after all, build, purchase, or own a nuclear bomb.
The real question is to what extent the right to bear arms should be limited. One extreme says no guns at all. The other extreme says any firearm and some other weapons like land mines and grenades. Most Americans fall between the two extremes.
I, myself, prefer the light saber. Not as clumsy or random as a pistol; an elegant weapon for a more civilized age. I'm also partial to direct energy weapons like plasma rifles, laser pistols, EMP grenades, phased particle cannons, and the Gauss rifle although technically not an directed energy weapon.
