    For a regular purchase, use Redfin if it's available where you live.

    If redfin isn't available (or if you're trying to buy something redfin doesn't cover, like short sales), all you need is an attorney.

    The problem is you most likely end up paying similar price for a house PLUS the attorney fee if you buy a house from the MLS list.
