Trolls come and go, yet their comments reflect a central theme as such the trolls comment's should be condensable to a few short sentences; the architype.

There are three themes: 1) I'm better than you as demonstrated by my uncanny preternatural ability to sit on my hindquarters and make money with no effort, the tack taken by Mr. Right and others, 2) Look at me I'm in debt up to my ass but it doesn't matter because housing only goes up, 3) Supply Vs. Demand, and the HARM re-mix 4) The ever-popular “Jealous Bitter Renters” theme.

We should be able to manufacture the ultimate troll comment.

Have at it.

Comments rebutting the established troll diatribe are welcome also.

Cheap hamburger (read fast food) is cut with soybean. Soy naturally contains molecules called isoflavones which mimic estrogen compounds in the body. Fast food beef is a double whammy. You get hormones given to the animal to make it grow fast and fat, and you get estrogen-like compounds from the soy. Ever seen so many men with mini breasts? Isoflavones and estrogen receptors are a nasty combo.

It's difficult to get info, thought you might know something about it. It's a miracle you even spotted the post. That's the problem with the 'massive thread' approach, lack of member profiles, etc of the Wordpress blog when you actually want to contact someone, hence why I recommended to patrick that he upgrade to a full-fledged managed forum site with proper member profiles, searchable threads, messaging, etc as a better way of managing content. Then you could all join and have a 'member's profile' area with internal and optional external messaging, the glossary could have its own area, you could create other special interest areas, etc etc.

Kinda like a big party around a campfire. I dunno, you would still get that effect when a new thread is started, but then you can see all the old ones as well. I just think blogging software such as wordpress is inadequate for doing the sort of things this site requires, as above; e.g. creating the glossary, member profiles, messaging, easy rich text and a more powerful editor, editing posts to make corrections, member registration, even IP blocking, etc. it's like using a hammer where you need a drill. or some similar metaphor... I would hope the astonishingly well-paid hi-tech contributors here might know of good, free forum software that works on php. phpbb is one possibility, for instance: http://www.phpbb.com/features.php I've seen one that lets you display either threaded replies or a full page view, so you have the option; if i could remember where i'd seen it, i'd research that one some more - but powerful forum software is just ubiquitous on sites these days...

I'm not a fan of any of the PHP stuff or other codebases for blogging software. Unless there is a really big need to customize the site and integrate it into something else like an e-comm system, then it's much more cost effective and bang per value to just use Blogger or Typepad, both of which are plenty customizable for 98% of users. I don't have input into the technology decisions regarding Patrick's site. The best I can do is link to my blog like others do (athena comes to mind) where we perhaps do organize some threads for longer-lived data and observations.

    190   4:23am Mon 3 Apr 2006   Share   Quote   Permalink   Like   Dislike   hmm, you're right, i guess you could index the glossary and the 'who is patrick.net?' threads in the right margin with the others. no criticism of the site maintainer/s, he, she or it are pretty busy i understand ;) phpbb or similar on the face of it seems to offer some useful features, such as private member messaging. when i mentioned a chatroom and an enhanced forum to patrick, he said that he'd never really thought of it, but it would be a good project... in some ways, i think the site has outgrown wordpress, but i guess there's loads of simple-format blogs out there with a hard core of regs - hard to know when to switch. i would think memberships and private messaging would be very useful for a variety of reasons. and the trolls might diminish with IP tracking... (i'm just a quasi-troll) both athena's and randy's sites are extremely good, btw - mine is still a bit 'token', but i intended to do a full website from the outset, with a very ambitious charter - this is only a filler really...
