    Peter P,

or you can buy ETF on margin.

Options on gold mining stocks seem to work, according to the last cycle, up to 1978 or so, after that, gold mining stock start to lag metal performance significantly. Also, you can still lose money on gold mining stocks in a secular bull market.

Although metal ETFs don't have options, some foreign and commodity ETFs do. EWJ (Nikkei), XLE, OIH, etc. If you just want to play with currency, then you can buy FXE, although there is no option available.

Margin rate is not cheap. How about CBOT mini-Gold (YG)?

Although metal ETFs don’t have options, some foreign and commodity ETFs do.

    True.

    Thanks!

I have nothing against the owner of this house, don't know the person, and haven't seen the house. But this keeps getting more and more hilarious. ZipReality sends me automated emails about "new" listings that match my criterion, and this one turns up every now and then.

    MLS 40166048

I lost track of all the MLS number this one has consumed. In couple of threads ago, I mentioned 3/4 previous MLS numbers for this. Every other week, this turns up as "Hot New Listing". Who are they trying to fool ? It hasn't sold for last 4 months.

Maybe the realtor has setup a cronjob that fires up and relist the house evey month ?

    To BA,

no wonder it is not moving, so damn out of whack pricing. 3192 sf yard, that is a townhome lot, I would rather get a townhome or condo than a "house" with no land, and yet it costs $880K.

If you don't mind the age and size of the house, you can find much larger lot and nicer location in Los Gatos, West San Jose, Cupertino with this kind of price tag. You can always do something on the house when you have cash saved up (or put in your sweat labor over the weekend), but lot size and location are something you won't be able to change regardless of how much HaHas you have.

Last few years has been very weird, in the earlier part of 90s, lot size was very important in the home valuation, it was still the case prior to 01. A house with a nice lot is worth more than a newer house on a tiny lot. Perhaps due to the influx of new immigrants, the emphasis has been shifting towards the age and size of the house lately, so you see plenty of McMansions with no character nor quality going up a steeper curve than smaller and older homes in a much nicer locataion with a much larger lot. I believe when as the bubble pops, things will return to normal.

    Owneroc,

Houses near freeways used to sell too. I am sure they do even now. If there is an open house I might visit it out of sheer curiosity.

Good points about the location and plot size. To me, the land has far more value than the building over it. Tha land in BA should command a premium. Older houses have bigger plots. But I do not like floorplans of almost all the older houses. The newer plans suit the newer lifestyles much better.

I’d derive enormous economic utility from having everyone on this blog over for top sushi, at least once.

That would be great if I was ever in the Bay area, but only if ikura, sake (the drink) and sake (the fish) are included.

Also, more drinking, and no arguing... ;)

    Actually, maybe even more drinking...

    X.

My neighbor (retired from the "state" boomer originally from Huntington Beach,CA) is diligently trying to create the perfect "boomer-topia"! After spending at least $20,000 on landscaping (wife=immigration attorney so access to endless cheap labor) they are miffed that a high school kid cut through "their" newly seeded riverfront "bootopia". You see there are no kids (high school or otherwise) in bootopia. Down in Bend, Oregone (your furniture suppliers) they're in the process of BANNING alcohol on the river as it passes through town. Seems the boomers flush w/bubble bucks that "built" their "manse" on the river don't think much of people that can still have sex (without the aid of "modern science") floating down the river drinking beer! I suppose though it's perfectly O.K for them to get smashed and or stoned on their deck watching the river go by. Of the SIX city planners only ONE objected to the ban. Welcome to bootopia.

Cool. I'm down with that. Although I'm in Phoenix now, I'm still a Californian at heart. And something tells me I shall soon return!

My cat's name is Dog. He's a big, fluffy kitty. We couldn't figure out a name for him, and he did chase a Doberman down the street with much elan and flair. So we named him the Dog.

Great cat. Had to bail him out of the pound for nipping at a naughty neighbor's kid who was poking him with a stick. He didn't have his shots, but we got him up to date after that incident.

When I got to the pound, he was lost amongst all the other dogs & cats. And when I finally found his cage, he was kicking back & just got up, nonchalantly hunched his back up and stretched, then looked at me like "get me the f-ck out of this place, dude!"

    Garth, Michael, Anybody?

It's not we don't have enough problems of our own (that we need to go out and find more) but what's up with the "Baja Bubble?" Every now and again I come across totally asinine postings on C/L where some J.O is trying to sell a "peso palace" (TM) for gonzo bubble bucks. Of course not that you'd ever actually "own" the property. Now I'm not supposing some one go out and start a whole new "Baja Bubble Blog" but isn't it in some ways "coat tailing" on the success of the CA market?
