Be sure to check out the permanent injunction SUNBRIDGE has with the Calif State Attorney General’s office dated September 2005, for abusing elders and violating their prior injunction.
My mother, Evelyn Calvert, died from SUN’s flagrant disregard for human life in 2004 in a Newport Beach Sunbridge skilled nursing facility which was quickly sold by them in 2003. I watched patients die from their neglect: Richard Laga, gangrene when SUN failed to hire a wound care nurse timely; Betty Harness, fecal impaction, when SUN failed to provide her with a laxative in time; a man in Room 2-B in Oct 2003 who was in his 50’s died from aspiration pneumonia when the suction equipment failed. Stella Carter died when her doctor’s orders for “stat” weren’t carried out by the RN on duty. Sun’s Medical Director, Dr L Scott Stoney, Newport Beach, Calif, testified in 2008 SUN was responsible for my mother’s death and he quit due to their lack of response to his pleas for assistance in this facility. see my website: www.sunhealthcaregroupinc.blogspot.com/
SUN is a publicly traded corporation (SUNH) and management is accountable to it’s board of directors and shareholders. Recently they’ve been informed of the willful misconduct of top management regarding the deaths above and the fact they cheated my family out of wrongful death, treble damages, pain & suffering, elder abuse when I sued SUN and they took advantage of my weakened condition after pancreatic surgery. I was lied to by my former attorney Daniel Leipold and he even passed on threats from the CEO of SUN in mediation, so I sued Leipold when I regained my strength, he then died 2 weeks later. No kidding. I successfully sued his estate in 2008 for the obvious malpractice. I suspect SUN employed him to rid their worries of treble damages which we could prove with written correspondence and settle for a small sum of fraud while I was distracted and ill. SUN’s CEO was so worried when I retained attorneys for Leipold’s malpractice that he even attempted to obtain a restraining order against me in January, 2007, for stating in a poster he and SUN were slumlords but Judge Gregory W. Jones, Harbor Court in Newport Beach stated loudly “NO, she’s not dangerous to him or anyone else. He’s the dangerous one, he killed her mother and she proved it, certainly she can state it. Freedom of speech, protected speech, peaceful protest. She did a whole lot less than I would have done if I were her. His attorneys should know better than to file this malicious prosecution against her.”
SUN recently has been under investigation by the federal government of it’s subsidiary Harborside Nursing Homes for kickbacks paid to medical suppliers.
