The closest thing I can think of would be the special brand of Kool-Aid that seems to have turned so many into non-thinking, unquestioning, Obamabots. But hypnosis? I don't think so ... but .... but ... why is that frog's eyes moving like that? It's making me very tired .....

This criticism is old as the hills and incredibly pointless. All speakers who are trying to SELL you something will employ any trick at their command to lure you into nodding agreement with them. It makes no difference if it's advertisers trying to get you to buy soap, a magician who wants you to agree their trickery is awe-inspiring, or a politician selling you on their upstanding job qualifications or their ideas. I find the advertising and marketing people are far more insidious and clever at it.
