"Obese man cut from chair he was stuck in for 2 years dies; skin fused with maggot-infested fabric"

Full Article

"Bellaire police had to cut the man free after finding that his skin had fused to the chair's fabric.:

"They said he sat in his own waste and was covered in maggots."

Hey, I don't like to exercise either, but when it gets to the point when you are stuck in a chair full of your own excrement and your maggot-infused skin has fused to the chair, it's time to get off your ass.

Question - did you cook all these meals at home from scratch ingredients?

    errc says

On a diet of bacon and eggs for breakfast, grilled chix on a salad w/ blue cheese for lunch, and a big fat steak for supper (16+ oz with a healthy amount of fat on it, yum!)

There are more health problems associated with being overweight as one grows old - more joints need replaced, chronic pain, chronic disease processes....

The trick is to eat well but not too much - and get your sorry ass up to exercise. We've become too sedentary.

Fat people are fat because of eating carbohydrates

This is so simplistic it's ridiculous. It really is moderation and staying active, and eating REAL foods. I have never been fat, but I did balloon up to nearly 150lbs when my proper weight is between 115-125. I tried everything. The no-carbs, high fat and protein diet made me extremely ill. The only thing that finally worked for me was Weight Watchers, which through the point system made me really think about portion sizes. I lost nearly 30lbs in 4 months and have kept it off for over a year. I also only eat real foods, mainly cooked at home. I still eat loads of bread, pasta, and rice, but in moderation. I also eat meat, dairy, and drink quite a bit of beer. For me, the enemy was wine, fruit juice, basically any fruit sugars, I have to really watch how much of that I eat.

It's very individual. But the ONE constant is eating real foods in moderate portions.

The trick is eat in the morning after you wake up, not at night, before you go to bed.

As far as what you eat, the different people in the world and the myriad of diverse diets they eat, stand testament to people are full of shit, when they say this is good and that is bad.

We're in a different place with respect to evolution than we were 500, 1000, or even 5000 years ago. There used to be an advantage to having attributes which allowed you to store fat better than the next person. You might even make it through the times of scarcity (which killed the type A dude who was getting all the women), and then you get to reproduce.

So having a metabolism or other factors causing one to get fat easily used to be a good thing.

But now we are trying to live way past 78 years of age, and fat is no longer as much of a good thing. Now we might start being rewarded for not storing fat well.

I'm rambling here, but I think someone might be able to put together an argument from all of this that there is still some upside in our longevity. That is not in the near term necessarily, but I can see average life expectancy being over 100 eventually.

That is if we ever get past the political infancy related bs we (myself included) spend so much time talking about in this form.

Then again, I'm not very overweight, and being in my mid fifties I'm feeling my age. So I might be wrong.

Besides, we don't reproduce when we are old. Another reason my theory above might be lacking. I can see it now, "I'm so attracted to you because you're great grandparents are all still alive." (sorry digressing too far from the subject of calories and what not)

I lost 30lbs in two weeks before..light construction (mostly steel), switching from beer to jack and diet coke..

Years later I'm back to the same weight but it is more muscle than fat. Weight alone is not what should be targeted.

I try to eat a ton of protein in the morning. toast w/ peanut butter, greek yogurt, black coffee, fruit, cereal, egg whites... it adds up to have less of a lunch.

If you eat well then eating junk feels more toxic. I cannot eat fast food (mcdonalds, burger king etc). Subshops can be ok. I tried spam for the first time in decades and I could feel my blood pressure going up.

I can taste the salt in food.. restaurants are filled with it (probably to get you to drink more). I try to avoid HFCS..there's been a backlash actually..more products advertise that they are not made with it.

Give the blood pressure patient a huge list of real foods and get the patient to only eat from it for six weeks, blood oath, before considering any drug interventions. After hearing all manner of stories from people who went radical anti-salt/anti-restaurant, I am convinced the 'hypertension' epidemic is really a sodium allergy epidemic.

    Its the carbohydrates, stupid!

I couldn't agree more. I stopped eating bread, potatoes, and pasta and lost 40lb. I eat like a king: Arugula, Bacon, Eggs, Beef, Tomatoes, Cod, Salmon, Cheese, etc. Problem is that it is damn expensive.

I tried 'traditional' low fat diets and felt miserable, low energy, very depressed. I lost maybe a pound or two a month, versus the low carb diet where I dropped a pound or two a week. It's hard to stay on a diet you hate and that takes years to get you to a good weight.

Mammals don't eat grass seeds in large amounts, period. Even cows are built to eat grass, not grass seed.

The powers-that-be want everybody to eat grains because it's a huge part of US agrabusiness: Corn, Soy, and Wheat. The bulk of processed food contains these three items in some form, usually highly processed.

Aspartame is another great product. It's basically E Coli waste.

Low Fat food is a joke. They take out the 'fat' but usually add in much sugar than even the 'regular' version of the product.

I've lost 25 lbs since May just cutting back the overall calories, mainly by substituting 1oz of almonds and a slice cheese for lunch to get me from bf to dinner, and eating a somewhat light dinner, quantity-wise.

Now a chipotle burrito busts my gut. I should only eat half. Got another 25 to go but once you're in the groove of losing it's kinda fun. The pants that were getting tight in April are so baggy now : )

I tried 'traditional' low fat diets and felt miserable, low energy, very depressed.

Low fat sucks, yes, since low-fat means high-carb. High(er)-fat diet is where it's at, but you've got to ration the calories to maintain a 500-1000 kcal/day deficit. That will give you the 1 to 2lb/week loss rate.

I still eat cookies and stuff but instead of half the bag I just eat one serving. Funny how when you're "denying" yourself, one piddly serving feels like the whole bag.

There's also good and bad fats.

Personally I try to eat a large breakfast focusing mostly on proteins. Greek yogurt, peanut butter, egg whites etc.

Bread for me is ok but NOT white bread

Fast food is bad although I'd say I much rather have a 5 guys burger than something from mcdonalds or burgerking..less processed I think. Then again at one point I thought I was lactose intolerate but I wasn't.

Recently I discovered zevia and it's not bad.

That aspertain reference reminds me that in Asia any gum sold with sugar alcohols I think is sold in more of a prescription like bottle.

Ive lost 60lbs in six months, and i eat well and the only exercise i added outside of my usual work week was more hiking. I actually found the low carb/higher fat deal after i had lost most of the weight, but it still made sense why what i did worked (started drinking only water, and avoided sweets) which naturally cuts your carb/sugar intake in half. The last 10+ lbs ive lost, thru self induced ketosis, people make more comments about. After losing damn near 50lbs of fat, converting the last pounds to muscle has really reshaped my body.

My vision had marked improvement with cutting carbs entirely. I remain sated longer, and have found ways to eat like this for same price or even cheaper then when i was eating the standard american diet filled with fillers (bread/grains and sugars). Two dozen eggs and 2lbs of bacon ends can cover a weeks brfst for 10$. I eat salads with mixed greens+spinach at lunch, 10$ gets you though the week, and animal fats w/fresh garden veggies for supper. Shop the grocers/markets for last day expiry meats, and thats 20$ for a week of dinners. 7 gallons of water and a bag of almonds and box of cashews, another 15$. 55$ per week for me in groceries, but knocking out even two fast foodesque meals a week were easily 20$. It felt more expesive eating like this at first, but in reality, its cheaper then what i was doing (dollar wise) and the embedded savings, like nixing my health insurance, and being much healthier, make it a much more affordable way of life

If you can garden and you can cook, you can eat well affodably. Now that were past summer, im starting some microgreens, and add some lite muscle shaping exercise. Not sure you can put a price tag on being healthy.

Next up im going for blood work, so when people say that it sounds dangerous and that all the cholesterol is deadly, ill show them my numbers. Good cholesterol reading and a in shape body,,,,,,,yes sounds very unhealthy. Cue the Lipitor commercial

    Errc, great tips.

My wife turned me on to Arugula and Spinach, which cured my aversion to salad. Before then, I considered salad something pretty to look at while you ate bread waiting for the main course. Iceberg lettuce is tasteless!

Parsley is another power-packed tasty green I discovered recently. Cheap as hell, and it grows like crazy in pots in the house. Parsley is really rich in iron and vitamins.

Dinner will be a big spinach-arugula-parsley salad with a small piece of grilled Tilapia. Both the salad and the dressing is a lemon-garlic-olive oil mix that I whip up in a bowl.

Another great all purpose "dressing" is mayo with a hint of mustard and lemon. You can put it on fish or chicken for the last few minutes of cooking and it creates a tasty 'crust' without using flour.

It's still pushed heavily and is the "official diet" (See FDA food pyramid aka the "Feedlot Cow" diet). There are still plenty of high carb advocates out there, despite the compelling lack of evidence.

However I believe that some people are very carb resistant and can eat high carb diets without gaining weight.

it's not a matter of being "carb resistant" per say, more so that carbohydrates don't seem to make them insulin resistant, confusing the system of fat stores in their bodies. doesn't make them any less unhealthy for people that don't pack on all the fat from eating all the sugar.

The biggest thing we can do to fight the pharma-government+lie-complex, is to eat healthy. Even if you can't stomach the idea of passing up your soda, or desserts and sweets, if you avoid sugar everywhere you can, you're better off for it. Our collective health is merely the result of our collective dietary inputs. Obesity/diabetes, hypertension, (Alzhiemers?) and the google of problems that come as a result of "putting unleaded gas in your diesel engine", are the not so silent killers. Dont' just buy fresh buy local, Eat fresh and Eat local! Eat seasonally. This also would be your best way to fight overconsumption of petroleum, as it's estimated that anywhere from 33-51% of domestic petro consumption is because of how "we" eat. From start to finish and everything in between

thunderlips, if you've never heard of growing in house microgreens, you're welcome. get to googling. They are so easy to grow, and certainly affordable if you price in all the implications of how and what you eat, not just the simple price tag on your bag of romaine and spinach. SPINACH IS THE SHIT! I'm like a modern day Popeye anymore, literally pissing away the fat and piling on the muscle.

Best of all, i have chosen not to renew my health insurance with my employer for 2012, and am working out a way to get compensated monetarily, in lieu of that fucking racket. 5600 this year, and i never go to the dr. and have never accepted any drugs/meds.

She scolded one young man for dripping mustard then punished him by eating his. Then looked over to me and spattered out " what are you looking at " ? I left ! She wasn't gettin a bite of mine !

Yep. Either that or pork half-price.

If obese people would just stop having sex, then they just might stop reproducing themselves and become extinct.

    When is that picture from?
Right now portions across the board are getting smaller and smaller, as prices are going up. TMAC54 was talking about the fat woman snatching food off people's plate(or hot dogs as it were).
Our food industry complex is doing that now, and charging you for the displeasure. As folks keep perpetuating this myth, that all Americans are fat and over weight, because food was abundant and affordable. Now it's not affordable, and is getting harder to come by. And what little food they do serve, they are now filling it with the most vile and disgusting fillers that are far worse than beef, mayo, vegetable oil, and potatos and bread. Where's the outrage about pink slime and other chemical fillers? Not to mention all of the corn sweeteners they stuff in food that otherwise didn't need it.

Most beers in a 6 pack are on average 10.5 oz.

More over, I call bullshit on that picture. If people ate out in the 50's they expected their money's worth. A 4oz burger are you kidding me, for a kids meal perhaps. Food was cheap then, I think someone could afford 3 or 4 3.9 oz hamburgers.
But I remember hamburger buns that makes our hamburger buns we get today, look, taste and feel, like something you buy in an envelope. Classic Hamburger buns were 5 to 6 inch diameter, and were a real hardy bread, not this 80% air crap they sell today. There was only one size of french fries, "a basket", and there was always free refills on fountain drinks. Or the 7oz Coke was only 5 cents.
