Can we still call him the greatest entrepreneur ever? Maybe Elon Musk of Tesla is the new Steve Jobs.

I lived and worked in SV during the 80s and like many didnt find Jobs or even Apple of much importance...

lets sober up and see Apple frankly didnt do much ... on the other hand Sun Micro and Tandem did a shit load ....

of all things from Cupertino, I give Jimmy Treybig, founder of Tandem many kudos for a job well done... he actually done more to contribute to computing than any Apple founder.

When I read about today's multi-billionaires, I wonder seriously, why don't they think more like Rin? Even if they don't personally have the scientific background to do medical research themselves, they could hire a team of postdocs and claim credit for the results. Consider two multi-billionaires at a cocktail party:

Howard Hughes done well in one industry and nothing more than expand in others.. From precision instruments to Film/Movies, Hotels, Aerospace, Transportation and of course Medical Research....

Not bad for a job creator...

Steve didn't personally develop all the above stuff, but they exist thanks to him being the guy who was responsible for bringing them to market as they were.

And these products weren't "first" in many categories. There were other hobbyist and home computers before the Apple II, but they sucked in critical ways that the Apple II didn't.

and yet couldnt make a scratch into corporate budgets... even today
does not get as much in corp spending as DELL..

and what runs Apple computers .. the company ? DELL Servers running
SAP Enterprise or Oracle for many others...

you think Jobs figured it out as it was starring him in the face...thats where the money was ....

Newt Gingrich and company — for all their faults — have received virtually no credit for balancing the budget. Yet today’s surplus is, in part, a byproduct of the GOP’s single-minded crusade to end 30 years of red ink. Arguably, Gingrich’s finest hour as Speaker came in March 1995 when he rallied the entire Republican House caucus behind the idea of eliminating the deficit within seven years.

no.. it makes alot of sense... eventually the profits get plowed back in further expansion and growth of business. Other industries benefit from consumer savings/spending. Else no profit not savings no economic growth! thus shortages will ensue. Its no wonder USSR one found only long lines of shoppers and shortages....

Not to mention with MFG going domestic, so does the supply chain including raw materials

This is a competitive advantage that companies outside the Bay Area are gaining as housing cost become more ridiculous here. Many times I have heard the argument that Bay Area is the best place to do business cause of it's talent. How is Silicon Valley and SF going to keep it's talent pool if refuses to build high density housing and Prop 13 pushes prices up for new talent without increasing value?

So are you arguing we need to elim Prop 13 which would increase property taxes for employees.. while other states are luring jobs away from Santa Clara with NO PROPERTY and INCOME TAX incentives to employeers... like Arizona, New Mexico, Texas and Washington ?

is on the decline and there are fewer and fewer jobs...

There are plenty of distortions in the market now as their were in 2000. A large number of companies with no earning and multi billion dollar market caps.

Very true. Yet the distortions in prior decades up to 2000 didnt exist.

For the US it works and has worked for several decades...

How you take to visit your family back east or north is no issue.
