Dear Speaker Pelosi, Please do not use taxpayer dollars to bail out homeowners. I understand the desire to keep people in their homes. However, the homes in question did not belong to the people living in them. The homes belong to the lien holders until the mortgage is paid in full. Mortgage holders are simply allowed the opportunity to live in the homes until the payments are complete. My family lives in a high cost area of Southern California and make payments on a townhome. My wife and both have good jobs and live well within our means. Speculative home buyers, fraudulent appraisers and pure greed at the investment firms and the banking companies priced us out of the American dream to own a single family home. To bail out speculative home buyers or those that did not understand the risks associated with the loan products they purchased is insulting. Purchasing a home is a long term investment. Any time you purchase any investment, whether it is a home, mutual fund or stock it is clearly printed everywhere "the value of the investment may rise or fall." The fact that people are defaulting on their loans within 24 or 36 months is a clear indication they could not afford the house. A homeowner bailout is problematic on every level. This is a free market economy and the laws of supply and demand must be provided the opportunity to work. A bailout will only prolong this economic downturn and further erode value of this country. Kindest Regards, Jason L.
