Advanced Directives is the general term used to describe the documents that
contain a person's wishes concerning his medical care if he becomes
incapacitated or is unable to make decisions. These forms should be completed
when a person has the opportunity to carefully think about end-of-life care,
long before a person's health has deteriorated to the point that these issues
need to be addressed. Each state has a law regarding Advanced Directives, and
offers forms or information at no cost that replaces the need to see an
attorney or pay for an online service for the same information.
