Realtor has done this in the past with his Realtormobile.

He moved in with his parents who live across the street. His RE business crashed down in LA. Now he just spends most of his time with his senior parents. Maybe waiting for them to die?

You could politely ask him to move his car or park in front of his parents house.

Or you could buy a couple bars of surf wax and draw pictures on his windows.

People act like they own the public street because its 'in front of thier house'.

Come on man, its totally legal to park there (as long as he moves it every 3 days or whatever the local law is).

Its also legal to buy and sell real estate, and to live with your parents.

I have encountered people so deluded into thinking they own public streets that they 'go to war' over this issue. Turn on sprinkers that are set to nail the car on the street, nasty notes, always calling in to complain to city. That street looks like plenty-o-parking to me so you have no valid complaint IMO.

My least fav complainer was when I had a house. I parked in front of MY OWN HOUSE and who complained? The damn mailman, because I would park in front of my own mail box. He left me a nasty note everytime - but its legal to park there. So annoying.

3   justme   2011 Oct 28, 9:11am

Maybe you should park YOUR car in front of THEIR house and see if they get the point. And then make an equitable trade.

But I agree with PockyClipsNow that some people seem to think that they own the curb in front of their house. They do not.

4   PockyClipsNow   2011 Oct 28, 9:21am

I will say its a funny photo because its a broke ass realtor who still has the mercedes. Fake it til you make it!

Lets get more housing bailouts and zero down programs from Obama so this guy can make some money!! Hooray for HUD $100 down payment program!

Realtor doesn't move it. It's been parked for a couple months now. Guess there are no houses to show. LOL.

I do believe that any street-parked car that hasn't moved in 72 hours can be towed with a simple phone call to the city. Now, that would be a real dick move, but you could do that.

No, I'm just (?) a renter here. If I have to park further up the street, I will.

I think the Realtard's parents told him they didn't want that car taking up parking space in front of their house. They have guests almost every evening.

The car BTW, has nearly bald front tires. I'm surprised he just doesn't fix it up, sell it, and get something that is cheap to drive. He either never leaves the house or he drives the parents car.

8   DennisN   2011 Oct 28, 6:43pm

He probably can't sell the car because he doesn't own it: he probably leases it.

Didn't this exact same photo and situation get posted here about 3 years ago?

If the car isn't in your way, what's the big deal? At least he's not living in it.

11   rhugo   2011 Oct 29, 12:50am

Or, I dunno, maybe he's helping to care for them? "Waiting for them to die"? Really, aren't you adorable (isn't he adorable?).

Given the cost of care for aging parents, the "unemployed realtor" may have concluded that his time and the finances of all parties is better spent having him move home and help out.

Rather than complaining about a perfectly clean S class Benz parked on a public street (the horror!), why don't you go over and introduce yourself and see how your neighbors are doing. Offer and hand with some project or bring cookies. Or work on getting a life.

12   rhugo   2011 Oct 29, 1:10am

"Offer a hand with some project...". My bad.

13   clambo   2011 Oct 29, 2:49am

How often to you have to mow your pebbles?

14   alpo   2011 Oct 29, 12:58pm

That sidewalk in between your house and his car looks very dirty. Please buy a powerful leaf blower and blow it clean, but please be careful otherwise small derbies, including some of those small pebbles (if you are really unlucky) may fly off and ding the realtard's car.

Better yet, use a pressure washer. That will really cleanup the sidewalk and anything else that comes in contact with the pressure washer.

15   madhaus   2011 Oct 30, 7:22am

Well, if someone parked his car in front of my house for months, I would have called the city months - (1 week) ago. People are less likely to complain if he were parked in front of his parents' house. If his parents want to save the space, guess he can move it every 72 hours if it bugs you enough.

Then again, with all the budget cuts, the city could very well decide it isn't worth their while ticketing or towing it.

16   Katy Perry   2011 Oct 30, 9:48am

is the registration current? bet it isn't. Parents don't want car infront of their house because they are embarrassed about how his storey ended.

17   zzyzzx   2011 Oct 31, 1:03am

What idiot buys an expensive car and parks it on the street?

I have 2 cars, and only my beater ever gets parked on the street, and even them not very often and certainly not for more than just overnight.

18   zzyzzx   2011 Oct 31, 1:06am

Obligatory:

Hint: You should write something other than Wash me on the car, and if the car isn't dirty enough, that something that you can fix as well.

Yes, this is a standard rule in California.

What you do is call in a traffic cop and say there's an abandoned vehicle in front of your house that has been there for a while. The cop will come, put a chalk line or other notification on the car, then come back in 72 hours to see if the car had been moved. If not, they will have it towed. They can't tow it on your word -- they actually have to check it themselves over 72 hours.

From what I gathered, in many neighborhoods, it takes several weeks for the neighbors to do this in heavily residential areas -- I would say 4-6 weeks minimum is common. In other neighborhoods in more urban parts of LA, sometimes the meter maids do it on their own because the parking is already scarce.

It some neighborhoods, there is an HOA that may regulate these things too, although enforcement can be hit or miss, and on principle, I'm against this kind of nonsense from HOAs.

madhaus says

The opposite is more likely, actually. The city would ticket it to get the revenue. Then a private company would tow it, and so they'd get money too.

Yes, and maybe even he's over mileage, so he drives his parents' cars now. Does he even seem to drive it every couple weeks to keep the battery charged up and everything in good working condition?

Eschew Obfuscation

I agree, although from the photo it looks like it's in the way of the mailbox. Where I live, if the mailman can't get to the mailbox from his car, you don't get any mail. Does your mailman walk from box to box to deliver the maill?

We park our cars in the garage, you know the place were all the junk you can't fit into the house normally goes. I had a neighbor ask why he never sees any cars in front of my house, he couldn't understand cause his garage is full of junk. I guess he assumed everyone uses the garage for that.

Tell them you saw some Arab guys around the car recently, Get a cup of fertilizer and diesel pour it on the bottom of the trunk and the some on the ground. After the bomb squad comes to investigate it, that car be so gone.

That looks to be an S-class Benz that is about a dozen years old. It's not an expensive car by any means, but it certainly used to be. People tend to see the make and quickly assume it's big bucks. A common theme among real estate agents seems to be buying up luxury cars that were expensive 10+ yrs ago yet continue to give off that perception to the untrained eye.

Case and point... My vehicle was in the shop getting a steering rack replaced. I borrowed a family members car, 1997 e420, which is probably worth in the neighborhood of $6-8K given the mileage. I received three comments that day about purchasing an expensive luxury car which is in reality worth less than my daily driver FORD, lol. Perception, perception, perception ;-)

Back to the topic above... First, don't ignore the fact that it is a public street. He can legally park there. Homeowners tend to get very territorial (with no legal basis) about the parking spot near the curb on the public street in front of their house. I've actually had notes left on my windshield wiper for parking in front of homes for less than an hour while stepping into a restaurant.

With that said, parking is one thing, but if the car hasn't moved in weeks or months, it's no longer parking but rather storing. Certainly no homeowner would be pleased with that.

Nobody wants to have unneeded confrontations with their neighbors either, but I would go talk to the neighbor and nicely inquire about the situation with the car. Hopefully they will quickly see your side and take the reigns on addressing the problem without you having to press hard.

If necessary, you can always call for a tow as their are laws in place that prevent people from storing cars on public streets. Just ask yourself if this bothers you enough to create a less than comfortable situation with your neighbor(s).

I've typically had good relationships with condo neighbors but not home neighbors (for these types of problems)... go figure.

I can attest to that. One year after a major snowstorm, I dug out 2 feet deep snow, 4 feet wide and long enough to pull my car in, to park my car in front of my house. Wouldn't you know it the next day returning from work, some ass was in my spot. I wasn't happy, I wanted to damaged his car so bad.

It's not a MY 1999 S-class, which looked completely completely different, first google link:

http://www.netcarshow.com/mercedes-benz/1999-s-class/

It could be a 2000-2005 S-Class, I believe. If it's on the latter part of that range, it could still have a significant amount of value. I think a 2005 would probably be at least $20K for an S430 or S500. For an S600, maybe $25K+/- a few K, and for S55 AMG, something closer to $30K, but probably short of it. That's still pretty expensive, and we don't know in what year he bought it.

However, point taken:

Very true. I have a friend who has an older, but not old, BMW that was gifted to her. It's probably worth less than her co-workers' new Corollas, but she constantly gets comments about having a Bimmer. People on the road are reverse-snooty to her too and assume ahead of time that she's an asshole driver. It's sort of obnoxious how much people think about the nameplate.

25   everything   2011 Nov 1, 11:48am

Here in WI, in most smaller towns you move that car every single day or else you get ticketed. They have these winter parking rules that go into effect and you'll get a ticket on that car every other day like clockwork, even if it's 65 degrees out, the grass is still green, and it won't snow for another month. In the larger city they'll put that rule into effect, ONLY when they get a larger snowfall.

I don't mind an occasional guest or neighbor parking in front of my house every once in a while, but if I see the same car being parked in front of my house repeatedly, I tend of get territorial.

The house in front of my house is some sort of a corporate guest house or maybe the owner rents out the house room by room. Usally they have four to five cars out of which two always used to park in front of my house.

When I first bought and moved into my house I ignored the problem until I realized that these guys treat the front of my house as their assigned parking lots, sometimes even blocking a part of my driveway, leaving the car their while they go on vacation, etc. That is when I started parking my car in the front of my house in such a way, so as to prevent any other car from being parked there. The first time I did that their entire parking scheme got turned upside down. Gradually they have learned to avoid parking there.

One without a garage.

In Philly, few people have garages because the city has built way before the automobile. Everyone has to park on the street and they fight for parking spaces, especially in the winter when they have to shovel snow to make a parking space usable.

I don't miss living up north.

Depends on what part of Philly. My cousin lived in Roxborough, which is on the edge of Philadelphia. Every house had a one car garage and driveway big enough for one car to the garage. So parking was less of an issue, but problems still occurred.

No different from downtown Baltimore. I park in my back yard.

Just get one of these:

And go out one night and loosen up their tire valves. When they come out to the car next and find 4 flat tires, they might not park there again.
