iPhone! Buy the whole ecosystem! AirPlay alone is worth it.

2   SFace   2012 Sep 12, 11:21am

S3. 4.0 screen is a deal breaker. The differnce between a 16GM memory and 64GB chipset is about $20, yet they charge $200.

3   Vicente   2012 Sep 12, 11:22am

iphone 5 no doubt for me.

4   seaside   2012 Sep 12, 12:50pm

Today, I got underwhelmed. So, iphone5 is taken out of my wish list.

Now my new question is... Buy GS3 now or wait till Note2 come out?

5   Y   2012 Sep 12, 2:48pm

S3.
Apple = closed system = mind control
plus S3 has 2 gig ram and big screen.

No need to be ashamed. The heft and sharp edges of the phone will come in handy for bashing in the skulls of cannibal anarchists trying to overwhelm your (our?) yam patch if you run out of good ol Russian made 7.62x39mm rounds for the AK.

I am seriously thinking about the Nokia Lumia 920.

If I had to go with Android I would probably go for a Motorola RAZR over a Samsung phone.

I am just not a fan of Apples walled garden approach.

Any worries about getting left out of the 'mobile web'. From what I can tell, mobile apps are iOS and Android oriented. For instance, I don't believe you could catch a Lyft with a Windows based phone. My armchair sits in the Web 1.0 world so I'm not exactly observing from the high ground.

9   CrazyMan   2012 Sep 14, 10:25am

The S3 is a beautiful phone. Apple products are for kids and clueless executives :)

Buy an S3, root it, install a custom rom without the bloat, tether to your hearts content.

Right, no Lyft on a Windows phone.

But...also no Lyft outside San Francisco, and apparently no Lyft if you do not use Facebook.

Yes, there are some apps that are available only on Apple and/or Android. If someone needs Lyft then yeah a windows phone would be a non-starter.

However, it has been my experience that I can always find a comparable "must have" app even in the comparatively limited Nokia/Ovi app market. I don't think it will be much different in the Windows Market.

Also, the Lumia 920 will have apps exclusive to it that come free on the phone: Nokia music, Nokia drive (walking or driving best navigation app I have used) and City Lens.

I am getting Lumia 920 when it comes out. I have HTC Thunderbolt for a year and half which has been a really good phone, but I am not happy that I am still sitting on a much older version of Android Lumia camera looks very interesting to me and makes it worth a try.

13   Y   2012 Sep 14, 12:10pm

Any windows phone is subservient to android/apple oligarchy.

I'm all in for Android. Love my HTC Rezound running ICS. I don't really care if it doesn't get Jellybean. In another year or so, Advanced LTE will be available and I'll just get a new phone.

15   anotheraccount   2012 Sep 14, 1:01pm

Well, I am still on Android 2.3. Considering that I paid almost $300 for this phone 18 months ago (it was first LTE Verizon phone), I would expect better updates. There is no reason why it should not get updates quickly.

I loved my old Nokias, so I am willing to give them a chance with Lumia 920. If it does not work out I might get an iPhone.

16   Peter P   2012 Sep 14, 3:51pm

I am quite happy with my Galaxy Note. Anything less than 5-inch is too small for a screen.

Executives like the Apple products because they WORK.

They like Apple products because they're trendy. Properly setup Win7 machines also just WORK and they're actually designed to natively participate in an enterprise environment and have enterprise level apps available to them.

Macs are play toys. Ask any exec why they like the Mac or how *it actually makes them more efficient* (which is the entire point of owning a computer) and they'll stare at you with a dumbfounded look as their eyes glaze over. It actually makes them less efficient, since everyone else in the company is on a different platform and certain things need to be in place for them to inter operate with everyone else. They're more expensive as well (hardware and software costs).

Disclaimer: I've been a unix admin/IT Director in this area going on 20 years, so I have no real love for MS products (I own 2 Mac Book Pros as well)) but I'll take managing 1000 Win machines over 1000 Mac machines any day.

20   anotheraccount   2012 Sep 15, 5:34am

The biggest problem with win7 machines is the all the preinstalled 3rd party crap they come with. I always put a clean install. I've had a MacBook Pro for over two years (latest OS) and still prefer my Win 7 laptop over it. I used Macs for publishing back in the early 90s.

iPhone has definitely been a great product and you have to give Apple credit for it. On the other hand a I prefer a company like Amazon that shares profits with its customers rather than stockpile them (I rarely buy digital content on iTunes, Amazon is always much cheaper and is accessible on my Android phone, my Samsung TV, the iPad, any Windows computer).

21   anotheraccount   2012 Sep 15, 6:15am

robertoaribas,

It just works is not true. Have you never had any problems with your iPad?

I have an iPad and had problems with it with software updates and digital content transfers. The iPad and the iPhone are intuitive. I don't think that iTunes or Macs are.

"This new car is great! Just change out all the tires, rip the floor mats out, slap this new air filter in, and it's perfect. You can do that all once you get it home. Oh, you don't want to do that? Or cannot? Ok. Sorry. Our car isn't for you. Go get something that is trendy and more, umm, beneath me ... I mean ... 'your skill level'."

I find those arguments a tiny bit elitist and not all the reflective in why something is better. ;)

Happy with my phone and happy others like theirs too. For me, I do enough software troubleshooting at work, that the last thing I need is technology invading my personal life. Make the technology completely transparent to me. It should work effortlessly and just let me live my life. That, in core principal, is Apple.

Plus, the the iPhone 4, my god, it's so solid and classic looking. (I keep mine wrapped up in a wallet all day) ... but still. Drool. The iPhone 5 I'm sure will grow on me too.

Yes, basically. An option you don't really have on iphone at all (well, older IOS versions can still be jail broken). You're just stuck with a crappy little phone :(

Android is not for everyone. If you're happy with an iphone then hey, I know tons of people that use and are happy with them. I just personally don't like them and I prefer to tinker with my devices.

Oh, BTW, Steve says you're holding the phone wrong. :)

Tinker away Batman.

I'll keep my work at work and the most I'll change or mod my car out with are the options that I select, and maybe some fuzzy dice.

my home theather stereo system when paired to pandora via airplay is the best way to listen to music free ever.

many recievers have built in airplay or you can add it on for $99 or so.

Roberto, no concern over giving up the type pad (or keyboard) or whatever the term is for these HTC mytouch 4g? I had the 3g before as well,,,,,I just can't imagine having to type out text by tapping the tiny screen, but then again, not every has to fumble with their phone using big fat fingers like me!

I've gotten my tmobil bill down to 64$ per month with unlimited everything (they knock you down from 4g to 3g once you've used up your monthly allottment,,,2MB) how much does the iphone service provider charge?

Lumia 920. Having the latest and hippest app experience is ephemeral. The photographs I take with the device are not.

36   StoutFiles   2012 Sep 17, 5:29am

If you want a phone that's easy to use, is likely used by most people you know, and has software for just about anything you can think of, get the iPhone.

If you want a large screen and enjoy tinkering for extra benefits like tethering and free software, get a Galaxy or one of the many other Android phones. You can still root the iPhone but it's much easier with an Android phone.

There's no right or wrong answer here. The Mac insults are funny, but only because they're ignorant.

If Apple made condoms, they would be incompatible with your penis, would leak like crazy, would do nothing to protect you from viruses because Apple doesn't think any viruses are targeting your penis, would feel very awkward, and cost more than the hooker. But it would be very shinny and have a frivolous glowing apple logo on it.

Oh, and it would take ten years for Apple to make their condoms multithreaded, long after every other OS has long supported threads.

The logo would also be oriented so that it appears upside-down to the condom wearer, but right side-up to anyone viewing the condom in use.
