"In what is likely to be one of last polls coming out of Washington State prior to Election Day, Initiative 502 to regulate marijuana is still holding strong to the commanding lead it has developed over the past few months. Data released from King 5 and SurveyUSA has I-502 leading among likely Washington voters, 56% stated they would vote yes on the measure with only 37% planning to vote no. There are just 7% still undecided.

This continues a several month trend of Washington’s I-502 leading in the polling data. A poll released last week by Strategies 360 had the marijuana initiative’s support leading opposition 54% to 38%. King5/SurveyUSA’s previous two polls from October and September had I-502 ahead at 55% to 36% and 57% to 34% respectively.

With just a few days left until November 6th, it seems unlikely the opposition will be able to overcome such a significant gap, putting Washington State on track to be the first state to legalize adult use of marijuana. Though, that may depend on how quickly the votes can be counted. The latest polling out of Colorado had their legalization initiative, Amendment 64, leading 53% to 43%."

Looks like WA and CO have legalized Marijuana. Now we have to look at what Obama and that twit Eric Holder will do. Will they take this as a historic opportunity to move the country forward or just act like goons and try and stomp this in the bud?

Don't worry folks Obama has proven time and time again.
While he enjoys the Kumbaya crowd getting him elected and all.
He wont hesitate for one single minute to send in the Pinkerton and mow down scofflaw heathens for smoke it the pot.

He allowed the Med weed industry to flourish for about 2 years, then sent in the DEA to bust and prosecute law abiding citizens. But only after they had money and assets worth confiscating.

Fattened calves for the Democratic kill.

Want something for nothing, and then expect loyalty? What would that be, honor amongst thieves?

I was watching a TV news show where they mentioned this. I forget which state it was, but one of them is putting a 25% sales tax at each transaction level.

Farmer -> Wholesaler = 25% tax
Wholesaler -> Retailer = 25% tax
Retailer -> Consumer = 25% tax

I would love to have someone here who lives in one of those states confirm this.

Anyway, I was wondering what the retail price of legal pot would compare to illegal pot at this point.

Obligatory:

Cool, maybe the war on drugs will finally end.

8   HEY YOU   2012 Nov 9, 11:01am

I understand that some are against legalization & that's fine.

Could one call the death of a family member in a "Legal Alcohol" DUI accident collateral damage? Would they be ready to Prohibit such a deadly drug? I be loving me some hypocrisy.

What's the word on homegrown?

Their venom would be better served to ban Lipitor and other statin drugs - THAT crap can mess you up for life!

It's Washington state:

I-502 called for a 25 percent excise tax at each stage from the growers on until it is sold in stores.

For some people it's cheaper than plane fare to Amsterdam, but ..

State financial experts estimate it could raise nearly $2 billion in tax revenue over the next five years, with the money going toward education, health care, substance abuse prevention and basic government services.

Notice how there is no mention of lowering income or sales taxes.

I just got this sample of Mapito grow medium. Pretty cool stuff. Looks like a combination of rockwool and some other material. They claim it holds a lot of water and oxygen. Going to give it a try.

I live in CO but I didn't follow the details of the legalization effort closely. The 25% tax at each level sounds familiar, but another poster just confirmed that to be a law for another state..not sure if the CO numbers were the same.

I have heard a lot of people claiming that the retail price + tax wouldn't be significantly different than the street price. There is a lot of margin in pot, and historically that has been used to compensate for the risk...with the advent of medical marijuana in the state (it has exploded in the past 2-3 years) prices have dropped significantly.

I don't know street prices for comparison, but just looking at the advertisements in the pot shop windows, it seems like $40 per 1/8th ounce was the going rate for the "high grade" stuff 3 years ago...and I have watched as the advertised price has dropped and dropped where it is not uncommon to see $20 per 1/8th ounce, or even less. I have no idea what that buys you in terms of quality, but my understanding is that almost anything you buy is high quality (not totally sure what that means -- I don't think it's just a matter of % THC content)...and that typically the "premium" prices are for scarce strains, or the "new hotness" designer strain of the month, and don't really buy you anything in terms of substance.

If this all sounds ridiculous, it is.

Sign spinners on the corners advertising "medical" marijuana -- seriously, guys?

More pot shops than liquor stores? Seriously?

Take a walk around Denver for more than about 5 blocks and chances are you will come across an area that smells like a big pot farm -- I'm not talking about a whiff of marijuana smoke that wafted in from some balcony above...I'm talking about the smell that comes out of a cultivation or retail shop that fills a 20 foot section of sidewalk in front of the entrance to the building.

It will be interesting to see how the new law gets implemented (there are a lot of tricky considerations), and what the long term effect is. Coming up with DUI standards and tests will be difficult, for one. There are current debates regarding whether it will be legal for non-residents to buy marijuana or not, etc...Denver still has a little bit of wild west in it still...

I've found it to be amazing that there have been absolutley no incidents of the DEA seizing assets & product until Obama was elected. None at all.

I'd type more but I have a cramp in my finger. I blame Obama.

But before Obama everyone knew and understood the rules.
And THAT is the issue here.
