After 5 years, things are turning the corner, including state government budget deficit. A lot of people is going to give that strange grin, for good reasons. But this is a good development in spite of the reasons.

Brown released his budget Thursday morning for the 2013-2014 fiscal year, proposing a $97.7 billion plan that is 5 percent higher than the current year's spending.

I'm guessing that the average person working in California didn't get a 5% raise over the last year. Why does the state think it can jack up spending by that much when there is no income to support it?

Corporations got more than 5%.

Myoptic - Just two months ago people were discussing the countless issues with cities paying people so much that cities were / are filing for bankruptcy.

So Brown with the backing of the powerful Teachers and other Union votes in a Engineer/Doctor/Small Bus tax and two months later there is no deficit.

If Californias believe only in perception, then this is really deception. Nothing more.

In 6 months we will need 12 more tax increases to support millionaire public workers. By then Californians will have forgotten about proposition 30........

Myopic

Isn't that like somebody with a grossly underwater house and credit cards maxed out saying their budget is balanced because they'll make enough to pay their interest payments for a year, but only if they get a 5 percent raise?

Yeah, that'll make the debt and unfunded pensions go away fast, in your dreams.

In the great socialist paradise, all news is good news. Celebrate, comrades, or we'll make you eat one of those bullets we confiscated from the gun owners.

I would call that an admitted 5 billion dollar deficit and a spending increase until the vapor clears and the money is in hand.
