Am I the only one who grows tired of this guy and his raging misinformed, yet egocentric and disingenuous posts? I'm no longer going to reply or even look at his threads. I posted a response to his post today and got this email message. Apparently he deletes posts that prove him wrong. Maybe it's time to step up to premium membership and support our buddy Patrick.

KarlRoveIsScum deleted this comment of yours:
I'm hardly surprised that 1.2 million sheeple signed this. People like that are quick to give up rights for imagined safety.
Ben Franklin has a pretty famous quote about this: "Any people who are willing to trade a little freedom for a little security will deserve neither and lose both."

Are you saying these 1.2 million media slaves are smarter than Ben Franklin?
This is the trouble with kids today: all action and no wisdom.

Its the same shmuck keeps coming back with different aliases. 1212, politico fact. I give the troll credit, it proved me wrong. I used to tell people that whined about the trolls, that they don't even need the iignore feature, just ignore the perp, and they'll eventually go away. I have to figure that people like that who troll internet forums are just deprived of attention, and they suck, so trolling is their outlet.

I've ignored its last three handles because all the clutter was ruining the site for me. Now, outta site, outta mind and I surre don't miss those stupid posts

Those of us that pay it attention, are more to blame than the sad little attention whore, so hopefully you go go gadget and delete my post and than this thread LOL

The thing that bothers me about KarlRoveIsScum is his/her strong reaction to anyone who disagrees, and an immediate reliance on insults. I believe this behavior to be almost entirely unproductive.

Quigley says

Ben Franklin has a pretty famous quote about this: "Any people who are willing to trade a little freedom for a little security will deserve neither and lose both."

Yes, we are all familiar with the quote.

The actual quote is:
"Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety."

We trade freedom for security every day. The argument is whether or not something is a "essential liberty."

Anyway, if KarlRoveIsScum needs to hear a Ben Franklin quote, while it does not fit into a one line quip, I think that the following would be a lot more helpful (not just to KarlRove, either):

"I made it a rule to forbear all direct contradictions to the sentiments of others, and all positive assertion of my own. I even forbade myself the use of every word or expression in the language that imported a fixed opinion, such as 'certainly', 'undoubtedly', etc. I adopted instead of them 'I conceive', 'I apprehend', or 'I imagine a thing to be so or so'; or 'so it appears to me at present'.

When another asserted something that I thought an error, I denied myself the pleasure of contradicting him abruptly, and of showing him immediately some absurdity in his proposition. In answering I began by observing that in certain cases or circumstances his opinion would be right, but in the present case there appeared or semed to me some difference, etc. I soon found the advantage of this change in my manner; the conversations I engaged in went on more pleasantly. The modest way in which I proposed my opinions procured them a readier reception and less contradiction. I had less mortification when I was found to be in the wrong, and I more easily prevailed with others to give up their mistakes and join with me when I happened to be in the right."

-Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin

I'm tempted to delete this thread as errc suggested, but our antagonist's brainless and entirely incoherent ravings throughout it illustrate my point very well. Thus guy is not representative of patnet posters and his posts should not be accepted as any sort of direction of the site or even as real thought.

Thanks also to Leo for that great Franklin quote. The man was wise indeed, and that is wisdom we could all use, certainly I can accept it. Yes, I was paraphrasing the first quote from memory. It was pretty close, I guess.

5   Homeboy   2013 Feb 8, 4:08am

Quigley - let he who is without sin cast the first stone. You posted this twice, in 2 different threads:

I posted this in the wrong thread.
Ok for an average hard working American family living on reduced wages, or more likely, reduced business profits, thanks to a protracted depression, how will be required to buy medical insurance for all five family members. If their income is $50k, that $20k is not going to leave much to live on, after taxes take their inevitable bite.
So what you'll have is a family of five with crappy cheap healthcare trying to survive on Top Ramen and the cheapest crappiest food out there. That will make their health worse, so they'll be in the clinic constantly, with all the other families in their situation.
Before, they wouldn't buy insurance, take their chances, roll the dice, and live normal lives as long as they stayed relatively healthy. Now they have to scrape by.

I pointed out that it's false because a family making $50K would be heavily subsidized under Obamacare. You did not retract anything you wrote, and what's more, went ahead and posted it in another thread, verbatim, still ignoring the fact that your hypothetical family would only have to pay a small fraction of that cost.

So should you really be calling OTHER people "disingenuous"?

6   turtledove   2013 Feb 8, 6:43am

First and foremost, I find it strange that anyone would feel the need to operate under so many different names. Is this simply his way around the "ignore" feature? Perhaps there is some pathology here... Poster's Schizophrenia, maybe? Although, with each alias, the same personality comes through... So, I'm putting my money on the first option, avoiding the "ignore" feature.

Another thing I find particularly annoying regarding Karl and his aliases is how he posts several short answers, one after the other. It's like he's trying to keep the post at the top of the topics list. By turning one reply into 10, he ensures that the topic stays "hot."

His abusive responses are nothing short of bullying. Even if he has a valid argument... that argument is often lost amidst personal attacks and foul language. I find him tedious, which is too bad, because I don't always disagree with the core of his arguments. However, his bullying tactics are in stark contrast to many of the positions he holds, making it difficult to take the argument seriously.

7   Shaman   2013 Feb 8, 8:04am

Yes, you champion the left side of the argument, and honestly that is fine with me. We need a balance of opinions and perspectives to maintain open discourse. What I and the others on this site object to are your attempts to silence any opposing viewpoints on whatever subject you're currently the self appointed champion. When you do this, you're saying that yours is the only opinion that matters and if you have the power you would be as bad as old Uncle Josef in silencing all dissent. So we don't like you. You're one of those "ends justify the means" political animals who value ideas more than people. At the core, I believe this stems from selfishness: the root of all evil.

Turtledove posted that she may agree with your stance on an issue, but since your tactics make you a bully, she can't support you or what you're trying to do. Why don't you read up on some history, say all about the tactics of the Soviet NKVD. Then again, you'd probably dig their methods and take them for your own on your holy crusade for all things the left media had told you are good and proper.
The right-wing media is just as bad. This is why I said that you are a media slave. You slavishly believe whatever your masters blast out of the idiot box. It's mostly lies and propaganda these days, and it's funny when the media tips its hand like with that doctored video of "NRA activists shout down a grieving father." It's just lies and selectively edited truth. If you believe it all, you're just another fish on their hook.

Why should we tolerate bigotry and racism from the right with no recourse all directed at the electorate and the President.

We should not.

I will not sit idly by while these idiots pollute political discourse amongst conscientious individuals who care.

No one is asking you to sit idly by. There are many others who challenge, but they do so without immediately devolving to boorish rants almost entirely filled with insults.

Continuous insults and bullying does not convince anyone that you are correct. It just makes you seem irrational and unreasonable.

KarlRoveIsScum says

I give as good as I get.

Sure you get plenty of insults hurled your way, but I think that you may be a net exporter of insults.

hence my attitude towards said racists , bigots, white supremacists and 1%ers.

I disagree, I'd rather have the people that you label racists, bigots and others respecting the constitution and the rule of law amongst myself than people who are not classified as such but think they can trample all over the constitution and define what speech or point of views is tolerated and what is not and think the way people feel or think about something should be enforced by the mob and unconstitutional laws. You have the freedom of association who you surround yourself with, no need to terrorize people you don't like.

Although I would actually defend Politicofact's right to use multiple aliases. As long as he does not camouflage his IP address so all can be recognized as coming from one person on this site.

Depending on the subject matter, and mood of the poster, multiple aliases can be a plus!

I'd hate to have him defending me in a court of law.
He's snap and go off on the prosecution and have me thrown under the hoscow.

19   elliemae   2013 Feb 10, 1:54am

I'm ignoring the scumster. I deal with mental illness during the day so it would be like going to work if I were to play with him.

I do suspect that he is the poster who "dislikes" my every post, which is extremely childish. But if his comments are reflective of his level of emotional maturity, his propensity to hit "dislike" is his method of striking out when he has nothing to contribute.

Each time he reinvents himself (which seems to happen as often as he changes his underwear - monthly), I have to re-ignore him. Sometimes I play - and I know that I shouldn't, but it's like a train wreck where you cannot look away - but "ignore" is a lot easier.

But I'd rather sit at the grown-up table, where the discussions are reciprocal and people know how to spell.

20   turtledove   2013 Feb 10, 2:24am

I know many of you have Karl on "ignore," but if you were able to see his responses to these criticisms, I think you would find that he's handled them with surprising grace.

You must have missed his responses to me. Not gracious at all, in fact I'd characterize them as childish tantrums.

He REALLY didn't care to be presented with facts, especially when they were so easy to find and directly undermined his hysterical rants.

Personally, I came to this site for Patrick and folks opinions about the Real Estate Market.

Sans RobetoAribas (also ignored) who seems to feel like Phoenix is the center of the universe, I feel the discourse about Real Estate is fun, informative, and interesting.

I don't mind a opinionated views on GMO's and opening the occasional discussion about the specifics, but I work in that field as a Scientist. (like elliemae works in the crazy people field)

I don't really need to open this site on a Sunday Morning and find 4 (FOUR) replicate threads on the deadly dangers of GMO's and how they are ruining the world. The same threads that pop up every day for the past 3 weeks.

I also came to PatNet to hear opinions on the RE market. I am also a scientist and enjoy a spirited but informed debate. Its a great learning opportunity. I cannot however abide hysterical silliness when it comes to such an important topic as the safety of our food supply. Scaring people without just cause is dangerous. For a person who was so vocally opposed to Karl Rove and his modus operandi KRIS certainly emulated his master.
