Timing is such that the oldster does not know if the "throwing shit in the face tactic" is an attempt to blind him from the probable incoming fisticuffs and/or heavy metal bombardment from the bully.

Formal police training dictates that when a perp initiates a physical attack the victim has the legal authority to defend himself at all costs, which is what happened.

If the physically fit bully would only have walked 20 steps to the lobby, texted to his hearts content, and walked 20 steps back to his seat to watch the movie.....if only.....
