It was an experiment - a proof-of-concept - that grew beyond the design parameters.
He should have done it officially, with a better design, and then introduced it with every conceivable legal disclaimer attached.
I am optimistic about digital currencies, because they weaken the power of governments over money supplies without the accompanying abortion ban, blue laws, and massive military spending that a "libertarian" regime would entail.
