Hydrogen fueling or hydrogen cars. Eggs and chickens.

But...

Sandia finds hydrogen easier to store, sell than we thought

Setting up a safe and convenient hydrogen infrastructure might not be as difficult as many thought, according to a study by Sandia National Laboratories. In fact, many existing gas stations offer a suitable footprint to store and dispense gaseous hydrogen for fuel cell vehicles.

This only solves half of the problem. Like petroleum based fuels, H2 is just a method of storing and transferring large amounts of energy. Instead of using ancient sun light from gasoline, you would need to generate the energy to make the H2. You would need to bring many nuke plants online for the energy input to make a H2 fueled economy work. The Integral Fast Reactor design would be a good starting point.

You must be new around here.

For once we are in agreement:

http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/lay_an_egg

Verb
to lay an egg (third-person singular simple present lays an egg, present participle laying an egg, simple past and past participle laid an egg)

(of a bird or other egg-creating animal) To produce an egg.
(idiomatic, of a person, organization, etc.) To produce a failure or flop; to do something which is unsuccessful.

That author usually writes good stuff, but he really laid an egg with that last piece.

One of the problems with hydrogen is, it LEAKS so easily.

Some of the experiments in catalyst-aided hydrolysis look promising, but I know from firsthand experience- it takes a LOT of energy input to crack water with plain electrolysis.
