Since we'll be having cybernetic companions in 10-20 years, think about how many smart phone addicts we have already, I think it's highly likely that human companionship, outside of the hospice industry, will not be that important in the long run.

The men with foreign wives I have known personally seem to suffer from a male dominance personality disorder, and they treat their foreign property, for want of a better comparison, as incestuously owned daughters.

In some societies with low divorce rates it is often due to religious institutions such as catholicism where divorce is really frowned upon. In small towns in other countries where everyone knows each other it's even possible to get excommunicated from the church for divorce. Hence the reason why people stay put. However, it is no reflection on underlying happiness of the parties involved.

There is a missing element to this whole " debate" which like I said- isn't one to start with: It takes two to tango and if there are a lot of divorces, well its not just the women who cause it. Hmmm... could it also quite possibly be because of.... the men too? Gee wizz!

In our society we are about skills specialization regardless of gender. If someone needs something done and they are unable or unwilling to do the work themselves, they can hire a contractor to do what needs to be done. This is regardless of gender.

Some of the reasons that there appears to be a double standard is because dudes have not held women accountable. For example with liberation certain chivalrous acts such as opening car doors shoud have been done away with. Mentality that men should pay for dinners out, etc should have been done away with it. To the extent that men continued to do these things they have played a key part to contributing to presence of some women who act like they want to have their cake and eat it too. If men wouldn't do these things, then women would not get reinforced for conduct that leads to these actions so things could have been put to rest a long time ago.

What you are omitting from the 50s women in mexico is the fact that many of them don't know how to drive, have never worked a day in their life outside of their home (serial babymaker/homemaker), were under financial thumb of their husbands (and likely put up with good machismo beating as a result) and are likely to grow resentful when they witness their college graduate chicana daughters start earning a paycheck and move out (aka the white way). We do need a marriage reform. Men should not be prejudiced against in a divorce. There should be no alimony and/or child support to the initiating party.

Real life, I know many latinos and I have seen these scenarios play out. And it is very interesting for me to observe the pivotal changes that college grads make as they are able to achieve financial independence that make me believe that some of the "traditions" were not really based on choice but more out of necessity.

And there is the rub...I too have seen that happen numerous times..He should have stayed in her country.

These fools think they can bring her to the USA and continue their life as normal. Going to work and leaving her at home alone with no friends, no family, etc and expect her to be happy..That's a recipe for disaster..Another mistake they make is marrying someone that's way too young for them

If you look at the statistics, they are pretty clear. Less and less marriages, men dragging their feet, but of those who are married the vast majority of the divorces come from the woman. Introducing no-fault divorce was a big mistake as it removes the skin in the game. These are statistical facts. It's great if you are happily married and most of your peers are, the majority of my peers aren't and divorces are everywhere. Lastly, you cannot eradicate a genetic blueprint reigning for thousands of years with a fiery speech about feminism and how great women are. Genetically women are supposed to stay home more, spend more time with the kids than the man and cook and take care of the household and that's how they are happiest. There's no doubt that throughout history there were times were women have been treated unfairly and those mistakes have been long corrected, but if you think that they are overall happier today, then the data does not match your thinking.
