I started posting on Patrick sometime (I think) around 2004 back when the housing bubble was a big deal. Back then at least it seemed to me that most of what was posted here dealt with actual real estate and the housing bubble proper. We had innumerable intelligent, interesting, thought-provoking conversations that in many ways helped me and I'm sure others make better informed decisions in a time of housing bubble madness. It seemed there was more or less a unified feeling of purpose.

That was then. In the time since then it seems like the site has turned into what every other forum is like: a big shouting match primarily between conservatives and liberals. I'm certainly not innocent of getting caught up in the mayhem. If I said things in the past that were offensive to anyone here I apologize.

Lately I've come to realize that there's hardly a day I come here and find anything that's worth reading anymore. Its the same old crap day in, day out: People simply trying to one-up one another by posting little trite and utterly predictable posts about liberals and conservatives.

In the end it can all be boils down to a simple fact: You can't often change people's minds and especially if your tactics involve insults and negative commentary. I also firmly believe that most people are genuinely decent who likely are in agreement with about 95% of one another no matter which way they lean. Its just that those who yell the loudest tend to get all of the attention and hence the concentration of objectionable content one tends to see on forums.

Seriously- if you're either a Democrat or Republican and you don't approve of the job one or the other politicians is doing your best course of action is to simply vote. There is no need to be ugly about it. Use your rights as an American to make your voice heard through the democratic process. Otherwise by calling each other names and wasting time in endless arguments is pointless.

But lastly the main reason I'm out of here is because while politically-based debates on forums have become a modern-day phenomena and nasty comments can be expected it seems to me that the level of outright insulting comments here has reached a fevered pitch. I'm all for a good debate, even if the debate is heated. But lately a lot of these debates have started crossing the line in what I consider unreasonable. Many have simply turned into contests of whom can be the most insulting to each other. Like I said earlier I am not innocent of this either. But in the end all that happens is people walk away from these sorts of debates with no resolution at all. In other words nothing constructive gets accomplished other than a bunch of people got all pissy.

So for me there's nothing beneficial and thus I've decided to call it quits. For those who stay try to be kind to one another. Keep it civil and if you've got opinions that are known to be offensive to some ( and you know it ) then perhaps its best to either keep them to yourself or share with people whom you actually know.

Lastly,
Thanks to those who I got to know over the years. Its been fun, but its time to move on.

Peace.

Best wishes out there in internet land! And the trolls you shall have with you, always...

How will you stay informed now?

What you fail to realize nestled gently with in all of the noise and discord in Patnet discussions. Is real brutal honesty, that is absent anywhere in the media or news. We all take stories and fill in the blanks that are missing. I think that's what the disagreement is. We all know there's a huge hole in the reports, we all disagree on what those pieces are.

It could be that we are ALL right.

I think he meant the other forum format.

I remember those days.

No, I am not complaining or whining or pointing anyone out.

Just thought this a good place to write how I felt at one time.

Awhile back when I was a paying customer, I came to realize this site was the only place in my life where I was disrespected.

Considering the possibilities and alternatives, that is pretty darn good.

Never the less, I felt some thought they were even too good to talk to me. Most of my threads were shot down. I was called an idiot and worse.

So now I lurk and comment when it is important to me.

I would also like to bring up the possibility that the scenarios we discuss are even more complex than the initial housing bubble and quite possibly very different belief structures are part of it.

Anyway, I still plan to lurk and comment once in awhile.

Sounds like me. I was just commenting on what I was seeing in the news. This site was a place for me to vent about current affairs. I didn't have an agenda, or a political point of view, I thought our country was heading the wrong direction regardless who was on the receiving end of my rants.

There are people who love to take what people post and twist it into an argument or a chance to chastise them and project their superiority moral high road, all the while acting like a pompous ass.

When I post something that may seem like I'm glad handing the opposition while scathing their party. I'm not attacking you personally, I would gladly welcome another point of view that would sway me to think otherwise. Or even that would deflate any notion of moral high ground I lending to the other party.

But that has never happened. I am always presented with grammar critiques and superior elitists who thinks that chastising me or labeling me something I'm not. Would change my mind. Not once did they ever offer any real effective dialog to enforce their position that Obama care was on track to be great. Other than to rehash the same propaganda that the Scuttlebutt was spewing.

Just telling the Middle class who are struggling to pay bills from week to week, that they make too much money and don't count in discussions about the direction our economic and health policies are going in this country. IS really rich.

Everything in this country has to be FORCED, there's no honest debate, just trash talking and shaming, until everyone submits or somebody quits and goes home.

I'm stark raving mad and pissed off at the direction this country is headed. That PISSES off so many people more than I ever imagined that it would.

Not in a Democracy! That is NOT supposed to happen.

You have needs in California, that is fine. People in Mississippi have needs too, people in California don't give a shit what people in Mississippi want or need. They are too busy labeling them Red Necks or Stupid southerners with backward ways. Everybody point and laugh at the Southerners, just before you Mail you California your life tax payment.

I don't know whether to envy those who chose to run from the argument or feel sorry for them for giving up.

I'm not a republican.
But I tend not to vote for or with people who thinks I'm stupid and my opinion doesn't count.
Or that would absolutely be outraged that I voted for Nader given the choices. They were on the wrong side of History, Bush won because they didn't vote for Nader.

As for what they are going to do or not going to do with Oil and Energy. How could one possibly gauge if it would be worse or better than it is now.
The pump is broken and remains broken. So you don't get to say anyone broke something that is already in serious need of repair.

Don't take anything here to heart & if you do tell your ego to STFU. It's working for me.
I thought everyone here knew Patnet was the #1 Bull Shit site.
Reading the comments proves it. roflmao

i thought the discussions in the economics sections is pretty good. the only thing needed is to censor any political discussions in that section. Many threads slowly turn in to useless left vs right policy debates.

That's the Patrick conundrum, people talk about politics, sports, problems and money to drive traffic. It drowns the core message of housing.

The way I see it 51% agree on something and the 49% the other way or some combination in between. It is a waste of time.
